K271S with Dog Pads - Match made in heaven! - Page 2

Hifiman Leather Pads.

Fits perfectly, and even has a foam ring insert that makes the ear cavity deeper. It's only $20 too.

Bumping this up because I just remembered I have some K271s that I haven't used in ages because the pads are worn out and I've been too cheap to buy new ones and I'd rarely used them since upgrading from them anyway because I thought they were too thin (thinner than the K702). But I also have some Alpha Pads on my ZMF T50RP, so I slapped the Alpha Pads, new foams, and K271 together.

I think I just found my compliment to my ZMF. They're no longer as thin as before, but I think the midrange did take a little hit because of the extreme angle of the pads. But overall, I rank them higher than my DT880 for the music I listen to, which is mostly acoustic music. I still wonder how they sound with Dog Pads though. I noticed that the midrange comes back when I press the angled portion against my head.

I'm still pretty interested in the Sony 7520 though...

*EDIT* I totally forgot I blu-tack modded my K271s, so my results may be different. I know Tiemen didn't like the combination, so a stock pair most likely sounds different with them on.

Correct. I didn't liked the combo. With the Alpha pads, the drivers are too far away from the ears which gives a weird sound, a bit 'off'.

The K271/272 are tuned to have the drivers rather close to the ear, so IMO the flatter Dog pads gives a more natural tone.

I unfortunatly noticed a negative point as well. Sometimes the sound can get nasal with the Dog pads. So I went back to worn out and tape modded DT 770 pads.

The Dog pads are back on the ZMF.

After trying them again, you're right. The midrange timbre definitely took more of a hit that I thought it did originally. It's more forward/aggressive, but compared to my pair of ZMF and DT880, that's not very hard. Definitely jumped the gun with the excitement there; that's disappointing. :(

As a side note, I tried the CB mod to my DT880 and slapped on my K271 velours. The midrange is definitely more forward, but the treble is getting to me. Have you tried them with Dog Pads? I haven't ordered the DT770 velours yet, so I might as well ask, since the extra $20 wouldn't be a wallet breaker. This should probably be a PM actually...

I haven't tried the Dog pads on the DT 880 CB.

In terms of comfort, the DT 770 velour pads wins over the leather Dog pads. I guess they will also be too wide to fit the DT880 properly.

The DT 880 CB sounds IMO best with DT 770 velour pads (I did try other leather pads, like the Beyer ones).

BTW and also very OT: those AKG velour aren't too bad on the ZMF, worthwhile to try....

Ah guess I'll cave and order them this week then! The mids are kind of honky with the K271 pads, so I really should order them.

I wish I could find a way to improve the K271 a bit more. I love their sound signature's goal, but they definitely need more extension both ways. I still prefer my pair to the K550 though.
