Which DAP? iPod Classic 5G, iPod Touch 4G, Sony F, Sony Z

Thread Starter

I'm looking at upgrading my iPod Touch 4G to a better DAP. I'm not worried about size/expandability or features/UI. I'm only interested in sound quality (unamped) and battery life. I have a budget of £200, which one would you recommend from the list above (or a different DAP altogether)? Please bear in mind I'm in the UK (import duty/tax is a b****h!)

I listen to a wide range of music (classical to rap) and it will be paired with a pair of Sennheiser Momentum, Amperior and Sony MDR-1R.

Have you tried to take alook at cowons offering? ( the x9), or maybe one of the sansas?
The cowon have all the usual cowon sound tweaking features, and a battery life that is near the hundreds

Cowons has a lot of power to drive big cans, Sansa's and Sony's are not a great sources for a full sized phones.

I own the Sony X Walkman, Clip Zip, Clip Plus and Hifiman's HM601. All could drive most of my portable cans (Vmoda M80/Amperior) with ease. The only portable can that I own that needs more power is Beyer's DT1350. It sounds quite thin when paired with my Sony Walkman. The Amperior on the other hand, pairs well the X Walkman. However, my favorite pairings would have to be the M80 and the HM601 followed closely by the Sansa Clip Plus and the Vmoda.

The Cowon X7, Samsung Galaxy players 4.2, 5.2 are highly recomended due to there supperior soundqulity, better battery life and easy to use UI with great synergy of different headphones(because EQ setting to shape sound you like).
