This maybe wont help you but my decision came down to looks and the magni having the connections in the back of the unit instead of the front. From everything I've researched they come so close in sound you can afford to go on reasons other than sound.

How was your experience with your order from the Harman Ebay store? Get any sticky cables? LOL .Did you buy them refurbished, or new? How do you like the magni/modi stack?

Didn't hear any Schiit products yet, but it seems like the magni/modi combo won't have enough current to drive these. Do some research on DIY amp like AMB M3, or Dynalo
Really cause most people I talked to say small stuff like the fiio e10 would be enough? I just go the magni to be safe.

Well as I said before, the Q701 adds a of bit bass coloration in my opinion and anymore would be distasteful in my humble opinion. Therefore, a transparent amp such as the O2 is a welcoming solution in my situation. Furthermore, I am very doubtful that the O2 would struggle with the Q701 considering people are using Fiio E17 and liking that solution.

Thank you for your suggestions. Never knew about either of those amps you mentioned and I will consider them as possible solutions. My only gripe with the DIY solutions is that it is time consuming and don't really have the time as of now. Building an amp seems a bit more involved then say building a computer.

On a different note, I am considering the new Apogee One soon to be released. http://www.apogeedigital.com/products/one.php

I find it intresting that they have a picture of the K702 being powered by the Apogee One. Are they stating something here? What do you guys think?

I don't think that would be the bed ideas since it's also used as a microphone. You should probably get one jus meant for listening to music

Some people blow the Q701's amplification requirements way out of proportion. I am not even using half of the power that my E17 can supply. Im using the 6db gain and still only listen at 25-30 out of 60. Some will talk about how its about more than just power, and that is true to an extent, but the E17 really is a fine amp. Plenty of power, a flat frequency response, a quality DAC, an EQ. I cant ask for anything more from a $140 amp.

I ordered two Q701 refurbs from the eBay store. No issues. Both perfect.

I'm sure that you didn't spend  enough time to find your headphones a proper amp then. It's not about the volume, every single hp amp nowadays could drive them with more than enough volume needed. If you can, try different amps at local hifi store.

Please tell me what a more expensive amp is going to do for me. How is it going to improve the sound? Please explain to me how the E17 is not a proper amp.

I have used more expensive amps and DAC's in the past by the way.....

Yea I would like to know the answer to this as well. One reason I am returning the E07k is on the assumption more power will give me better sound. I can get the volume to be too loud on 6db of gain, the amp turned to max and itunes turned to max. Bring the volume down a tad and I get a good listening volume with some noticeable hiss on some tracks. Most likely the recording not the amp. The biggest reason I am returning the E07K is that it is not neutral/transparent. It has a dark sound signature. What do mean? It sounds as if a blanket is covering a pair of speakers. However, I read somewhere that the E17 is neutral and has a more powerful amp. Sounds like a good solution for the Q701 if you ask me. However, I need an audio interface for guitar recording, so I figure might as well use the dac in that device and pair it with something like the O2 amp.

I got a hold of Apogee and asked if the new Apogee One could power a headphone such as the Q701. Here is their response:

"With an output level of +14 dBu (3.9V RMS), the ONE is capable of driving most professional sets of headphones, but with particularly hard-to-drive headphones like the Q701, you would likely benefit from moving up to the Duet. It's headphone output level of +19dBu (6.9V RMS) is capable of driving just about any headphone to suitable levels with extremely low distortion.

Hope that helps, and let me know if you have any other questions."

"is capable of driving just about any headphone to suitable levels with extremely low distortion." This is interesting and somewhat telling about pushing an amp to its limit.
