Best High End distributed music system

While I've asked some questions in the Computer Audio forum, I thought I might get interesting insight in here about high end solutions to distribute music and even video around the house.  We're about to redo a large maisonette in London and want to consider the possibilities before we begin work.

 

I've looked at the Linn system, but I am wondering what else there is out there that you have seen, heard, used or bought/deployed.

If you're going to be running multiple systems around the house, have you considered running a wireless network with a central server? You could have something like a Mac Mini at each individual system, but house all the music/video on a larger computer elsewhere.

 

That's how I do it for my house. I have a PC with a couple TB of storage upstairs housing the music, with a Mac Mini for the downstairs system, pointed at the network drive.

Is your system driven by iTunes?

Obviously that would be great for different zones playing different music. Are you also able to play the same music simultaneously in all zones? If so, how do you maintain sync?

Would love to hear about your setup in more detail.

JRiver does that exceptionally.

You're running J.River's Mac version?

 

Also, does J.River read iTunes libraries?  I am thinking I'd like to have both initially but obviously want one master library for music.
