Just uploaded my AD700X review video. I'm not going to do a full write up of these since it will make the review thread NO LONGER OVER 900, but I was pretty impressed that AT managed to get most of the AD series magic in even at this price point.

Hi, how's the detail and the soundstage of the AD700x when compared to the MA900? I'll be in Japan soon and hope to try them out! Sadly I also noticed a significant price increase since your review of the MA900.

BTW I finally know why I didn't enjoy the AD900x when I tried them: my music choice is often VERY hotly mastered (especially tracks written by Nakata Yasutaka) and fast paced. In that case I'm not sure if the AD700x would suffer the same problem.

I had a similar issue as you described with the AD900x; however, it seemed like this either went away after burn-in or I was about to use different equalizer settings to kind of minimize the distortion.

I think if anything the AD700X would be worse, the high frequencies seem a bit more boosted on the AD700X.

Cheers, now my choices are between MDR-MA900 or CD900ST :D

Never heard the CD900ST..  Just looking at the headphone, I'd probably get the MA900.  Doesn't look nearly as comfortable, and "studio" signatures do not always translate to an enjoyable listening experience (not a fan of the V6).

I'll just wait and listen when I'm there. CD900ST is an option 'cus, being "studio", my listening style tends to be analytical and a bit cold (used to own a HD25-1 and still use a Brainwavz B2); I heard it's beyond the league of V6 in a good way.

Hmm. If your listening tends towards the analytical but you are concerned about performance on hotly mastered tracks, why not considered the AD1000X? It's a little tamer than the AD700X and AD900X but still carries a similar house sound.

That would be WAY beyond my budget, which would be around $200. If I can squeeze a bit more then the MA900 would suffice :)

Oddly enough both the MA100 and MA300 seem bassier than the MA900 to me...

That is a good thing. Then the ma900 would be perfect for me. The ma300 is a different sound if based on the graphs at GEars. It looks like the lower end version of the ma500 while the ma100 looks more similar to the ma900 graph. Both the 300 and 100 have more csd ringing than the 500 and 900. But for 20 bucks who cares. The ma100 is pure Win!

This thread has really made me consider the MA900 and the AD1000x (I previously considered the HD650's) as an upgrade nudge from my Beyerdynamics dt250 - 80 Ohms. It's surprising how the DT250 rarely gets mentioned once headphones pass a certain price point.

I'll be looking out primarily for deals on AD1000x. Could be a few months of price hunting

Few months?  Better make a deal alert on camelcamelcamel.com (set region to jp)

When you have a price dip on Amazon.jp, that usually reflects the market value.  I am hoping they drop as well haha

DT250 are pretty decent so you should be in good company while you wait ;)
