Why a_recording, why!

Think I'm gonna try to go straight to the 2000x, but it will be awhile. Too many motorcycle trips and too many blues fests to pay for this summer.

Your review convinced me to get the MA 900 over the AD900x, heh and because the MA 900s were cheaper. I was wondering, the cloth earpads on the MA 900 aren't bad but have you found any other ear pad that works for them? I've tried pleather pads from JVC RX 900s and they're more comfortable but they mud up the upper half of the sound pretty noticeably.

I think you may be the first person my review convinced to do that haha! That's cool. I don't know about any other working earpads; though I've always found the stock ones quite good in terms of comfort / breathability... perhaps some other peeps might have ideas?

I actually went the AD900X direction because of the build quality issues you cited, but now I'm wanting to try the MA900 and AD2000X as well. :P

a_recording,

I like your reviews and Youtube vids on these ATH's.  Just wondering if you find the AD1000X clamping force too much?  By the way, just by reading all your posts for the 1000x I really like to purchase one and try it out.  I already have the HE-500 so it seems that these will be just a hair less on the midrange but will surpass it with superior soundstaging.  I wonder if I can even suggest that comparison (unfair perhaps?).  Have you tried the HE-500?  I sure like to have your take on these vs. 1000X.  And also in terms of comfort, based on your review, it would be much, much lighter than these 500's.

I think the he-500 will likely be more resolving than the ad1000x by virtue of being a ortho... But yes it should be much more comfortable. I don't find the clamping force too great for the 1000x because if it were less it would probably start sliding down the head.

I've seen a few of your vids now and wanted to say kudos to you. Great videos overall. I really like that you go in depth and provide clear comparisons without getting into flowerly over the top details that are hard to follow and don't make a lot of sense.

Stumbled on this thread again, while debating picking up either the AD900(x) or AD1000(x). Seems you have the best comparison going for them!

Definitely will. I have owned the MA900 and AD2000. Loved the AD2000 a lot, but ended up selling them at some point. I really miss that sound signature a lot, but it was hard to have so much tied up in them given the usage. I figured the AD900x would be a nice balance in there.

Also, forgot to mention I love the video series name. "Lachlan likes a thing" is a very catchy phrase!

I felt the same way about the AD2000 - gorgeous sound but because it didn't quite always gel together I found myself wearing other headphones most of time time. Actually it was the AD1000X that strongly reminded me of the AD2000 haha.

And thanks, the name was a bit of a random thing but clicked when I thought about it. :3

I really miss my AD2000.  It maybe the only headphone I've owned that I miss.  For that reason I just might give the AD2000x a try.  The AD2000 are still on sale some places as well.

Oh perfect. I'll plan on buying a pair of balanced AD2000X from you in the future wink.gif

At the time I had the AD2000, I didn't use them all that much. But for what they are, there are some endearing qualities about that pair of headphones that I am starting to miss.

This is my first post on Head-Fi, despite having browsed several times in the past. I'm currently really torn between AD900X and the MA900 because of your review. I was convinced that I was going to buy the AD900X, but it seems the the MA900 might be the better choice for me.

I honestly listen to quite a wide range of music, but I'd have to say that most of the time it's electronic (dubstep/DNB), rap, rock and metal. I do listen to music that isn't that bass heavy though and I'm worried that the more bland treble of the MA900 might not give that "sparkle" to the music. This is the first time I ever buy higher-end headphones, so I'm just trying to do my research before I drop the cash on a pair. Also, whilst I do listen to bass-heavy music, I don't enjoy overpowering bass. I actually dislike using the Beats that several of my friends have because the bass just feels too forced.

Based on this, do you guys think I should go for the MA900 or AD900X?

EDIT: Also, just for a point of reference, I'm currently using Sennheiser CX280 IEM's.

EDIT 2: Damn, this is so hard. The more research I do the more headphones I find and the further away I get from choosing a pair I want. I'm also looking at the Phillips L1 Fidelio now, because they seem to be even more suited to bass-heavy music than the MA900's.
