IMO I would say Denon D5000 stock. But best in the world would be different for each person so I would say there is no such thing.

cheers

It's a headphone, nothing special, with a lot of tedious tweaked equalization and a little amplification for good measure and overhead.

$300~400 can get you there. And that's with great treble & mids and sound stage and stuff too.

Be smart and don't expect 18" subwoofer perfectly situated in a perfect room level of performance from a 30~70mm diaphragm headphone.

Very best,

Go to Amazon.com and read the first review for the Ultrasone Pro 900. I've listened to most of the big bass phones and the Pro 900s probably have the most BOOM for the buck of anything I've heard. Here's a list of some of  the biggies not in any particular... :

1. Ultrasone Pro 900

2. Denon D5000

3. Audio Technica Pro700MKII

4. Pioneer DJ2000

5. Beyerdynamic DT770s

6. Sony XB500/700

Ultrasone Pro Signature DJ - $1000. The ethiopian sheepskin makes all the difference man. note: I've never tried these.

From my experience, I thought the V-Moda M100 does bass very well. LP2 for even bigger bass boost if you're a hardcore basshead.

I'm listening to mine right now and am finding them pretty impressive in the bass category.

The XB800 is terrifically bassy, and it's not altogether sloppy bass either.

I have to say that the best bass I've ever heard out of a headphone is the LCD-2 / LCD-3 though. Heh.

The next time the Pro 900s go on Lightening deal I am in. I miss those bad boys. Some nights you just want to rock the Bass(tonight) and nothing rocks the Bass harder than those do.
