The bass is definitely stronger on these and extends lower.
Pre break-in, there is detail but not as much separation as I had with the RE0s. I'm sure it'll change with some run-time.
And of course when I give them a better input. Running off a 120gb zune isn't exactly a hi-fi setup tongue.gif

Can't wait to get the DX50 to see how these get along, and also looking forward to my BA200s coming to compare to these.

I don't like the sound out of the DX50 somethings not right

Same here. I think Re400 is not as good as Re0s when considering the timbre and especially the treble. Treble is very laid back, too mid forward after coming from Re0s and burn in doesn't seem to improve it much. I didn't like Re400s and sold it.

I'm looking forward for your comparisons to Ba200 and Re0.

I am hoping it'll open up a bit, but the mids definitely aren't as forward as the RE0s. I found the RE0s more exciting than the re400s (so far prior to real burn-in)

I'm torn between tips 2 and 3 (1 being largest).

With tips 2, I'm getting a good seal but the sound is bloated (probably because the seal is too tight, I can also hear my heartbeat heh).

With tips 3 I get better sound clarity but I lose the seal when I open my mouth.

you'll have to play around with tips unfortunately

with every iem, i have had to swap around the tips for a long long time (around 2.5 weeks sometimes)

because of fit, preferred sound signature

the different size sound can result from the opening apeture of the tips.

try different length tips too. (even single flanges if their long enough can be fantastic as well) i personally have a LOT of tips now, (all the re400s, vsonic gr07be, sony hybrids) all ranging sizes and flanges

different iems can result in different tips as well

like for the re400s i use the medium biflanges(longer) (smaller than the sony hybrid medium) (airier and more treble extention)--> i would say deep insertion

the vsonic gr07 be i use the medium sony hybrids(warmer sound, more mid-bass, lower to mid treble extention) or the blue (slightly bigger and longer mediums) ( bit flatter signature)--> after using the re400s theses seem like a shallow insertion, but i would think its only medium, i had shallower in the past

the turbines i use the re400s biflanges (better treble extention less bass bloat)--> deeper insertion

sorry if this post confused you

bottom line TRY ALL, the "perfect size for you " may not be your favorite sound signature or the isolation or depth you want

I think it sounds good with the DX50. I have both with me now.

Glad you enjoy the RE400 via the DX50. There are a few on the DX50 thread that have said they don't like that combo. I've heard the RE400 out of other setups and I think it's much better

Weird how people hear things differently. I'm looking to sell/trade my re400 because I did not like the combo. You don't think there's a veil with the vocals?

such a downgrade when compared to 262/272

i wish hifiman would bring those 2 back.

I just listened to it with jazz today. I'll go back and check it out with vocals. But as you can see from my signature, I get along well with various sound signatures.

it sounds hollow to me but I'm keeping mine because it sounds good out of my iphone4s so that is my gym setup

I'm just wondering if it is the re400's or the dx50.. I got rid of all my other IEM so I have nothing to compare. Hopefully when I get my new IEM it wont sound the same on the dx50. You're right it does sound sort of hollow. Almost like the mids are scooped but not.. weird.

It's neither. The DX50 sounds great out of certain phones and the RE400s sound brilliant out of my iphone4s and desktop setup.

Can anyone here compare the re400 with the westone 4r?

Thanks in advance

Let's hope so! I agree the re400 sounded fine out of my J3 and my laptop. Just hoping the dx50 isn't a bust for me.

You may be able to get a quick comparison from joker if you ask over on his thread:
