[REVIEW] HifiMan RE400 ‘Waterline’ – The New Reference - Page 26

I've found my sweet-spot tips for the RE-400. It's actually a pair of the RE-262 double-flange tips with the long neck. Bore is wide, but the long neck on the tip allows for a great seal while also giving a deeper insert into the ear canal. This brings out deeper richer bass while continue the awesome depth and height of the mids and treble.

i also have 1-2 pairs from 262/272

do you wear them normal or over the ear ?

Are these different from the similar looking black one that comes with the RE-400 (the ones on the left in this picture)?

All I gotta say is you have to get rid of those and get some Complys...

Try 'em out... Use this coupon code for 15% off your product purchase: TIPS15

Really liking the blue Isolation I got, looks good and sounds great! Really picks up the bass compared to the Active(Sport) ones!

That's great to hear! Nothing beats the comfort, isolation, and sound of Complys...

Nope, they are transparent and a long neck between the bottom and top flanges, PeterDLai.

These? Seems like they might have been discontinued. :(

Oh well, your previous recommendation (Auvio) is still working out great for me.

EDIT: Just found an old post showing how you can modify the biflange to this "improved" version. The black one that comes with the RE-400 looks to be the same shape as the unmodified version, but I've also read here that sometimes the translucent versions of tips are softer and more pliable (as compared to the black ones). Maybe you can still order the "machine-made improved bi-flange" from Head-Direct themselves if you ask.

The picture for those show the unmodified version, though I don't know if they just haven't replaced the picture and already modify all the biflanges to the new version. They look very similar to the large biflange that comes with the RE-400 except in clear. It's also mentioned on that page that they are meant for the "RE1 and RE2" which are old, discontinued models, so I assume they are left stock without the shorter top flange. My note was on ordering the already machine-modified versions of these from Head-Direct, which may be possible if you contact them directly.

BTW, you can get these right now from AC Gears for $89.00 shipped (unless you live in NY because of sales tax) after promotion code: headphone13

All they ask is that you donate any non-working/working pair of headphones to them or your local Salvation Army. A great value becomes even better.

Your right! Damn...I am going to cut a pair of them down anyway to put foam sleeves on upper flange to compare them with STD large black doubles I have now. So I can do the half cut off upper flange. Will use a large ball point pen barrel top cap piece as a cutting guide. I use that now to stretch earplugs foam over the upper flange core. We will see...plus I need some new filters to have on hand.

Happy listening

So I've had mine about two weeks now and I didn't do a traditional break in/ burn type thing and they are finally getting broken in I think. I have been hearing subtlety and micro-detail that I haven't heard before on tracks I am very familiar with. Man these things are good!
