The Millett MiniMax is a vacuum tube and discrete solid state hybrid headphone amplifier.

I am this units' second owner and did not build it. It functions flawlessly and sounds very good with each set of tubes included.


 

It uses high quality parts: Elna Cerafine Capacitors, Kimber TCSS copper in Teflon wiring, Kiwame resistors, Cardas rhodium over silver RCAs.
 
The tubes installed are (NOS) 12AE6A Raytheon.  I bought them new and burned in for a few hours. They have the highest gain and are suitable for most headphones.  Also included are a second pair of Philco 12FM6 tubes, with a lower gain of 10.  They are said to be more suitable for low-impedance headphones.
 
I am selling this Amp for less than the cost of the parts, for someone else to enjoy, and because I am not using it.

dmn, I got one of these my selff, the build quality is well half as good as that, non the less MINE sounds good with Mullard 5963 12ua7... so your's I'm sure sound even bettter

I heard this amp with an HE400 the other day... It was amazing, I'd definitely buy if I wasn't building my own tube amp, build quality on it is superb.

Oh... my friggin Gawd... those are CLEAR TOP TUBES

 

Dang it man that's a damn sexy amp I might have to SERIOUSLY save up and get back to you, as I have a thing for Hand Made Tubes and my Millet Max [while I LOVE it's gain switch] is kinda of a flake... plus my desk has room for another 3 or so amps [not including my side space which is reversed for a BIGGER amp]

No, Millett Hybrid tubes are space-charge tubes that are rated for 30V maximum on the plates.  Typical use is at 12-15V, which is why they were used in old automobile tube radios.  You can't put them in a 12AU7 amp.  Besides, they're 7-pin tubes while the 12AU7 are 9-pins.  Not much about either of them are similar except for the 12V heater.

 

Just curious when you said your Millet Whiplash was flaky - Whiplash sold both the Starving Student Millett Hybrid and the MiniMAX (on sale here).  The Whiplash Starving Student came with a gain switch, but is a completely different design than the Millett Hybrid / Millett MiniMAX / Millett MAX family.

 

I agree that the build quality for the MiniMAX on sale here appears to be superb.  With those Elna Cerafines (can't get them anymore) and Vitamin Q's, it should sound great.  It also appears to have the Toshiba 2SC3422/2SA1359 output transistors which are also fairly rare these days and among the best transistors that can be used.  I sell the brand new kits for $230, so this is a steal. wink.gif

thanks,and yea this is a steal. I'm about to recommend it to some one :D

 

and yea I don't know what the heck I have. it was a Mini WHip Lash that some one modded with Max parts or I dunno, either way it's a great amp nice sound. Yes the gain switch is good, but the rca in's r kinda lawl what e.e 

 

still thanks for that answer. I got a new Matrix M Stage SS that I'm enjoying as well atm. Might be a while till I switch back into the Millet WhipMax

How much would shipping to the states be? 

 

That is a beautiful amp right there and I don't have the skill to build my own at the moment but something like this may do the trick to get me into this. Have you had the chance to try this amp with the HD650's??
