But what do you mean by the slightly revealing character of the new firmware?
Sorry I really dont know much of the audiophile terms. Thanks again btw.

Yeah, audiophile terms are a bitch because I could mean one thing, you could understand another. With the new beta-firmware the X3 has gotten a bit crisper, slightly more details, etc. When I say 'it´s more revealing' I mean that you now can hear errors of the recording better (if it´s a bad recording). In case of well done recordings it´d be more details.

The HD-558 is balanced but tilted towards warmth; perfect for the X3.

Thanks for the explanation. Really appreciate it. smily_headphones1.gif but disregarding my question about the synergy of those daps with my 558, would you still prefer the SQ of the X3 ( with its new FW) over the DX50?

I guess both more or less are the same sound quality but one on the warmer side and the other on the neutral side as both are in the same league

Would FiiO X3 be able to utilize sufficiently the capabilities of a pair of Hi-End headphones such asSennheiser HD 650?

Thanks in advance. :o

Instrument separation, detail retrieval and clarity are pretty much the same thing on the 2 players (with FW 2.14b). With the X3 being a bit superior IMO. It's just that the X3 is maybe capable of giving you that body that the 558's lacks. The DX50 will probably not.

Thanks for your inputs guys. I really appreciate it. Guess Im just gonna wait for the official fw of the x3(2.14) rather than swaping my x3 for the dx50. smily_headphones1.gif

Just post a download-link like on 2.14b

For now the only option is to join the beta program. So you can only download it when you participate in bugfinding and post it on Bugzilla.

So we'll have to wait for the final to come out.

Having used the 2.14-Beta firmware for more than one week now I can say that it is very promising.

Most important for me: Ogg Vorbis reproduction is fixed with this version, so in principle I can stop reencoding a large quantaty of my music files.

Sound quality in general has improved (I prefer the high gain setting).

I had a couple of freezes though with this beta firmware, with mp3 and flac files, none yet with ogg vorbis. I use the following settings:

Idle Poweroff: off

Sleep: 30s

Backlight time: 60s

Resume mode: last position

gapless playback: on

equalizer: off

gain: high

The new UI is very nice.

The one thing that I dislike about the software is that it doesn't remember that it was in directory mode after a poweroff:

- turn on the x3

- navigate to some folder (directory mode)

- play files in directory

- let the device power off itself (without manual interaction)

- turn on the x3

=> it displays the song last played, but the back/menu button now leads to a list of all songs on the device.

I have to navigate back through the complete folder tree to get back to the previously selected folder.

The behaviour has not changed compared to the last non-beta stable firmaware, but in both cases it is not intuitive for this use case.

Yes, X3 be able to utilize HD650 without problem. My own opinion. I like set gain to High.

Thank you Mmet. In that case I suppose I'll have to connect the X3 to the O2 using a 3,5mm cable right?

The X3 comes with one if you don't have one.
