Always up to test beta software.

Who wouldn't be! Great improvement with 2.14. I do like the feel of the UI, and the sound improvement is quite noticeable. Scrolling and playlist management, and some other bugs can use fixing.

2.14 is pretty awesome.  After a few hours of analyzing it at work, I agree that the sound has improved big time.  I no longer want to buy the roxannes haha, a veil has been lifted.  The bass is much more full and defined too.  If you already got an x3, you don't really need to upgrade to the x5.  All you're going to get is better details, I notice things that I haven't heard before even with mp3's on my x5.  Some of those techno robot voices actually have breaths and I can hear the tongue moving around in the mouth as they sing.  But if you don't want to hear smelly robot breath and saliva, you don't need the x5.

Also, 2.14 crashes literally every 2-5 tracks.

Did you turn off idle shutdowns?

I kinda like the more bass, when I'm outside, the bass significantly losses itself in the noise.

Can anyone confirm the slower UI when the equalizer is on? Whenever I use the equalizer during playback, the interface is a bit slower.

Mine was shutting down at least once or twice a day on 2.1 and hasn't done it once on 2.14

Can't say 100% for sure, but mine seems to freeze alot more if I'm playing from the database vs. browser. Any others have similar experiences.

Seem slow...thats why I don't use it and use my x5 instead 😎

I turned off sleep, and idle shut downs.  I also messed with gapless on/off.  Not that I'm complaining though, I got the x5 now.

The following applies to BETA FIRMWARE 2.14

Haven't tried folder browsing with 2.14, since using the DB now works for all of my files smily_headphones1.gif. I have experienced some freezing, though. I had one freeze that the 10 second power button and reset button couldn't fix - had to reload the firmware. Can't complain too much, though - just happy that Joe provided us with a link to the beta firmware!

Kudos again to Fiio for engaging us so directly and positively!

Well, it IS a beta. Please at least attach the beta suffix when mentioning 2.14beta, or else we won't be having this conversation with anybody here on head-fi the next time a beta comes out redface.gif

The sleep and idle timer labels were switched around by mistake on 2.14beta, you did not have the idle powerdown set to a few minutes (causing the player to shut down for sleep regardless of playing track), right?

Then it would seem to be a bug with the beta. What file formats are you playing on your card? Any other relevant info you can give about the crashes?
