Let me know if you like the UI mod. I focused on making the black theme even less obtrusive. I would've posted screen grabs, but the UI tool wasn't working for me with 2.14b.

The UI mode is pretty awesome.  its pretty good and less bland.

Not having the litegui tool is going to make it a pain testing themes. Maybe there will be a newer version of that too

I didn't use it for my X3 mods and was eager to try it out this time but couldn't get past the boot and charging screens. When I hit "1" on my keyboard, I encountered fatal errors every time. Maybe you can give it a try and let me know if it was just a newbie mistake on my part.

I'm just glad the pack/unpack tools still work, so I can refine the UI! Fiio makes good DAPs, but their UI choices can use a bit of refinement...

Hi all,

Great thread and great support from Fiio smily_headphones1.gif

Thought I'd post as a recent purchaser of an X3....

Having sold a UK Sony NWZ F886 to purchase (yet another) DAP & in a state of slight impatience and panic as to not having something to listen to music on I decided to give the X3 a go - thanks to some advice from BigAund smily_headphones1.gif

Very brief thoughts...

1) Build quality - perfectly fine for me, no issues with buttons or creaks / cracks etc
2) Accessories and packaging - all great
3) Interface / UI - I actually like text based options, keeps things simple and orderly

SQ...

Again, from what I have heard / used (about 2hours so far) the SQ is great. Compared to the Sony (from memory) and the Sony was paired with an E12 amp (all the time)

1) Bass on Sony / Fiio - slightly better defined and better presented
2) Mids - think the X3 has the edge here
3) Highs - think the X3 has the edge here

Positives and Negatives....

IMO the Sony (uk model) NEEDS to be paired with an AMP - the Fiio X3 (IMO) does not need an AMP
X3 - expandable memory
X3 - simplicity for ease of use
Sony - Android / Aps etc - if this is your thing but I never used them

Having used both, the Sony with an AMP - they are both great players, however as an out and out Music Player only I would probably select the X3 due to the Simplicity and more importantly the need to not have an AMP (I use IEMS) and the bonus of expandable memory

If the bass could be tweaked a little then this for me could be the perfect DAP - but in the short time i've had and used it, it is certainly a keeper smily_headphones1.gif

I also have a question regarding cases.....

I see there is a leather one (made by Fiio) are there any other options at all?

Many thanks

U can tweak the hardware bass or the eq bass in the beta firmware. I currently have my bass on +1 and I'm considering +2 to make it more to my liking. I'm using the tuff luv case which was recommended a few 100 posts before.

The bass and treble was also a feature in all the production firmwares from version 1 up to 2.1

My experience was the X3 sound improved noticeably after 20 hours or so use. It actually was underwhelming out of the box but improved quickly. (or I fooled myself)

Will majority of you guys say that with the new FW of x3, it now sounds better than the dx50?

Can someone confirm the X3 will drive a LCD-2 (reasonably well) ?

Absolutely. While the DX 50 has the edge I micro detail, the X3 still bests it in every other category with the new firmware. Plus the X.3 has a certain lushness throughout the midrange that the DX50 does not.

But before the new fw of fiio, would you still say that the x3 is better?

The new firmware works well, and is very quick. Sibilance is definitely decreased.

Only if you're someone who usually listens to brights or neutral headphones. If you like cans with a bit of warmth in their sound and the X.3 would lose out by comparison.

Do you think my sennheiser hd558 would better pair with x3 or dx50?
