I played around a bit with the beta firmware. There have been some nice tweaks to the UI, but the orange theme was kind of ugly - the black theme was fine. Of course, the volume issue was a no-go (I listen to just FLAC) - had to pretty much max it out whereas before I could play it around 26-28 at low gain and it was fine. Didn't feel like messing around with the tweaked beta someone put up so went back to the current firmware.

I am wondering though why still no support for playlists? This seems like such a basic feature of any DAP - of course iPods have playlists, and even my Sansa Clip Zip had playlist support. I like making multiple playlists and having them available. At work it is easier to select a playlist then having to constantly mess with the player. The Favorites on the X3 is kind of a pain to add anything to. Playlist support would really be nice.

Does anybody else here wish that the X3 had playlist support?

I use a pair of InEar Stagediver SD-2 and they work pretty well with the X3 after the new beta firmware. The SD-2's however are closer to $500, but if you are willing to save up a bit then i would definitely recommend them.

Yes, X3 needs one last upgrade...to create and save playlists. That will definitely be the ultimate upgrade for v2.14 final. The rest of the upgrade is already good and the playlist wil complete v2.14.

I really enjoy my FiioE07 andes, and this unit looks interesting.

It appears that the X3 has been evolving fairly rapidly.  My understanding is that formatting the memory cards is difficult.  Has that changed with the new firmware?

Also, my understanding is that native DSD support is planned.  Is that out yet or soon to come?  When it is supported, what kind of format would the DSD file take.  Also; as I understand it the memory needs to be formatted for FAT32.  Wouldn't size limitations come in to play in some situations?

What does this unit do with multichannel FLAC files?  I hope that is automagically folds them into 2 channels, but wanted to verify that.

Last but not least, has anybody used the 128gb memory cards with this yet?   How well does that work?  Any signs that the 128gb prices will come down?  It appears to be about 4x the cost of 64gb cards at the moment, which seems unusual.

Thanks.

Formatting is no sweat now. You can just do it with the x3, and not worry about anything.

Haven't tried dsd, some folks claim it is working now.

Same for 128gb cards (have a pre-order with amazon, but haven't gotten a release date yet)

anyway, good things is that you guys can see what we are working in.  :beerchug:

I agree it's not very stable. Freezes quite a bit on me. Lately I've been mostly listening in dac mode with my big grados, so it's not much of an issue.

I'm still glad fiio released it, I was starting to think the update (codename: yeti) didn't really exist...;)

I don't really notice anything new with 2.14b SQ wise, except slightly more bass

the EQ doesn't work though, go to any presets and volume drops a LOT.  try to customize any of the bands and there are no changes.  Oh well, not that I need to mess with it anyway since it now has fuller sounding bass.

can't wait to compare to the x5 when it gets here tomorrow :gs1000smile:

edit:  maybe I shouldn't have upgraded, it has randomly shut off twice on me in less than an hour and had to press the reset to get it to turn back on.  This is actually the first time I've had any issues with the player.

I've listened to the new firmware for a few days and am continually shocked how much a difference a change in firmware has made on SQ. They've basically addressed all the complaints people had about the X3 SQ while maintaining its strengths. It no longer has muddy midbass and a congested sound stage - bass is tight, separation and clarity is improved and sound stage sounds bigger. All this while retaining the great X3 tonality and weight.

I can't see another DAP at $200 coming close to this now and wonder how close the sound is to the X5.

You just have to right click "save as"  because if you don't, it'll try to open the entire code in browser.

Thanks for the suggestion.  That is too far out of my budget, however.  Looking for something up to $150-200 max.

I got gr07be & pfe111. Both sound pretty nice with my x3. Picked em up for $140 cdn. The pfe are discontinued now, but the gr07bes are supposed to be back in production soon (the gr07 classics might be ok too - ~$100 if I remember - but haven't heard them)

Also got a pair of Grado 125, which are probably my fave of the 3, but they're hardly portable.

@chengsta, @LasVegas, and anyone else...

Let me know if you like the UI mod. I focused on making the black theme even less obtrusive. I would've posted screen grabs, but the UI tool wasn't working for me with 2.14b.

I am using it now. I like it...nice font as well as color scheme.

Thanks
