anyway, good things is that you guys can see what we are working in.  :beerchug:

Thanks for the heads up James. Hopefully most of the people that download the beta will realize that it's a work in progress and there will be glitches. Having said that, my X3 has actually been more stable on the beta than  v2.1 and a lot of the changes in the UI are huge improvements, at least for the way I use it.

For the X3 owners in here, do any of you run a neutral-ish sounding IEM in the price range of $150 or less and are really satisfied with the sound when matched with the X3?  Maybe up to $200 max.  If so, what do you run?  Many folks seem to indicate that neutral headphones/earphones are the best match with the X3, and I think I've had a problem trying to mate warm or V-shaped IEMs with the X3 and being disappointed.

Lots of folks seem to use and like the HiFiMan RE-400's with the X3.  But I'm really concerned about all of the negative reviews regarding build quality of the RE-400's and how many folks experience the cable shorting or becoming detached within a few months to a year of owning them.  So I'm on the lookout for another neutral IEM similar in performance quality to the RE-400's but of a higher build quality and within the price range noted above.

Thanks for any thoughts.

150.00 price range...how much do you want to spend?

@steelgram

Havi B3 Pro1 ( original version) could very well be a solution for you.

I really find them to pair great with X3.

Yeah, up to $150.  Maybe can stretch it to $200 if it is clearly a step up in terms of quality.

I was really planning on going with the RE-400's, but there are too many bad stories about build quality from both friends of mine and folks here on Head-Fi.  But something neutral-ish is what I am looking for, since the X3 doesn't seem to mate as well with warm or V-shaped IEMs (at least in my experience).

Maybe vsonic gr07 ?

Just got wind of the new FW update and I am blown away. The synergy with my SM64s is great and I'm not really missing the DX50 anymore!

Is this with 2.14b? I ask because I've found warm and v-shaped earphones and headphones sound much improved with the new firmware.

Yeah, it's definitely better, but still not quite up to par for my tastes.  I'd still like to try a pair of neutral IEMs with it, since folks seem to really like that pairing and I'm beginning to understand why.  I like a slightly warm sound signature, but the combo of a warm or bassy IEM with the already-warm X3 is too much for me, and I'm thinking with a neutral IEM, the inherent warm tone of the X3 will come through without adding any additional warmth or bass.

In fact, I used to use my X3 almost exclusively with my E12 DIY to alleviate congestion and muddy/sluggish low end. I then switched to my iBasso DX90 when I got that, but since the 2.14b upgrade I haven't felt the need for the E12 DIY and haven't touched the DX90. Not that I'm saying the X3 is better than the DX90 or anything - just that the X3 has improved enough to really catch my attention and truly become a stand-alone DAP.

Good job, Fiio!!!
