I seriously hope there will be an option to have a text menu like before instead of this foolish looking "Cartoon" menu made for a touch screen / spin wheel...

It is doubtful that will happen.

If that's the case then I'll wait till the firmware is finalized and up it goes for sale cheap. I knew I should have picked up the DX50 right from the start.

I really don't want a $200 player that has an interface that looks like it should be on a Coby Media Product...

Looking forward to your impressions. Would be especially interested in a DX90 v. X3 w. 2.14BetaFW comparison.

Agree about the improvements to SQ.Eager to test against the DX90.  Brought home HE-400 from work to try to test this weekend.  3yo's b-day might get in the way, though.

Unfortunately, I think this is true.  Maybe I just need more time to get used t the circular menu, though...

I'm going to say I love everything about the new U.I. Well. Almost everything.

-Low volume (looks like I'm downloading that 120 volume mod!)
-During playback, browsing or performing any other function is very tedious due to I think maybe hardware limitations?

-Playback text is in an odd placement...

Pretty happy to be playing .dsf files on this. But yeah, please fix the volume issue ASAP since I'm at the 60 max and can barely hear thru my HF300s.

Well this wasn't set to release until mid may, so they've got some time :)

I'm just happy to have previewed this half a month earlier.

Oh yeah, definitely. The volume thing is just an oversight, I'm sure, and easily adjusted. I upped the gain to get a bit more headroom.

EDIT: I'm also getting some intermittent times where the player just shuts down in the middle of the song. It's usually after I've hit Rewind to start the song over.

looking through the coordinates folder using the firmware tools, I think it might be possible to use a text-type menu like before (change the icons to a text string gfx: line up the coordinates left justified). Have to play round and see if it actually works....

Looks like there is a whole lot more that can be changed with this new firmware.

I put mine on All Songs with Shuffle mode and switched on the Hold button. The X3 shut off with a lot of battery life left instead of playing until battery discharge as I hoped would happen.

Is this with gapless switched to on or off? I got reports with latest X5 firmware that the player behaves more wonky and is more prone to random shutdowns with gapless switched to off.

I know this was not directed at me, but mine was off. So you're saying on is more stable at this point?

Gapless on. Thanks for checking and for providing us the beta. Fiio shows amazing customer support again!

Just a reminder for anyone experiencing mysterious shut downs. Joe mentioned earlier that idle & sleep were swapped. I forgot and had mine shut down in the middle of a song.
