I appreciate some people may want it but if that's the case why did you buy an X3?

As far as I can see no one has ever said it has EQ and no one has ever said it will get EQ so why buy it and then keep moaning about it not having EQ?

I prefer the way Fiio implemented the hardware treble and bass controls on the X3 over the EQ on the X5. They reduced the output of the EQ by -6db to avoid clipping, which isn't really that big a deal. Also, there is only one 'customize' preset and changing the EQ for different headphones is a giant pain to tweak for each sound signature. If the X5 had more than one custom preset I would enjoy using the EQ much more.

I am using ie80 now and I am thinking about upgrading to an ie800. The line out on X3 is not the best (which is fine given the price). Therefore I don't really want to spend a huge amount of money on an amp. If Fiio can introduce an amp for around USD 200 to 250, it would be wonderful. I am probably asking too much...
Is there any good amp from other brands that I can consider at this price range?

The hardware EQ adjustments on the X3 is good enough. Probably if they could cut the 100Hz to 80Hz for bass it would be great. That's the only EQ the X3 would require IMO. From my experience from DX50, even though it has a 10band equalizer but it's of no practical use as to me, it is not well implemented. It changes the SQ for the worse. The hardware EQ settings for X3 is definitely sufficient. For heavy EQ users, should turn to Cowon players. Nothing beats their EQ.

+1 and i guess ( not sure ) the x3 with bass boost from 8 to 10 would give stronger bass than cowon

I am big fan of my x3 but this new UI looks horrible and cheap!!! Looks like our Chinese friends doesn't have any taste. I'd rather prefer the old one!

Easy solution Ananasov, just ignore the firmware updates after v2.1.

Haha yup. It does give a stronger bass response than Cowon at +10 but more towards mid bass. Cowon if maxed out at both BBE, Ma3chbass, EQ it really does pound the ears. But IMO Cowon EQ is really pretty stellar till now. J3 is a very good example. With exceptional battery life, UI, portability and EQ settings.

I'm finding the X3 line out is better than the headphone out when using my amp (Epiphany EHP-O2 into Sennheiser Momentums). But I'm an "audio newbie" so feel free to take that with a pinch of salt.

QFT

Which TF card works best for the Fiio X3?

Any of the "Name Brand" ones, beware there are lots of fakes on eBay. Get one from a store with a good return policy.

thanks. But do I need to pay extra to get FAST-READING cards?

I would get a normal class 10 one because it is just a tiny bit more expensive than a class 4. I don't think you will need an extreme one.

Connecting an amp through line out would give you a better sound most of the time. I am just saying the line out of X3 is not as clean as something like X5. This may hinder the improvement you can get (slightly). Therefore I am not sure if an expensive amp will suit X3 as it may not be able to perform 100%.
