I was listening to The Black Keys. It sounded like it was coming from inside a confined garage which caused a thought or two... then I remembered it was tagged as garage rock. I guess the X3 does garages real good.

If Fiona & earphones get better over time I'll be super pleased!

I am using Alpha Dogs and want a bit more volume and clarity.
I am sure that many options have been mentioned in this thread but there are SO many pages!
Can I please get a few recommendations?
Thanks,
Russ

The only way to use another portable DAC/Amp with the X3 is if that device supports Coaxial input. There are converters, but those will make your setup bulky past no return. Coaxial is already making this bulky.

I recommend using just another amplifier add on. Look around at people who have owned the Alpha Dogs or possibly even other T50RP variants and in the amps that they like with it.

IT's much easier to use just another portable amp with the X3 than another DAC(while on the go).

If you want to stay with FiiO, the E12 and or E18 may be an option. Otherwise there are popular untis from Leckerton, iBasso, Astell Kern, ALO, RSA etc

For the most part though, the X3 is basically supposed to do what you have as criteria without any other 'add ons'. But of course, if you are unsatisfied, you can add stuf onto it.

Lobotomy? I've performed that procedure 3 times on my Fanda FiiO. It didn't come out un-scathed. I always had to perform life-saving procedures on it after I performed the database lobotomization.

My own Fanda FiiO only listens to K-Pop between the hours of 2pm to 5pm.

First Fiona, now Fanda.

What next, Fido? :p

But reading (wading) through this thread makes me wonder.
Does ANYONE have a normal, working, stable X3?
Surely it's not that much to ask? I just see more and more products being released that just don't work sensibly.....which means you (we) are getting ripped off. Seriously, has this just become accepted behaviour out there? Or is it just a very few units (worrying enough).

I would welcome any decent repsonses that tell me to pull my meagre savings on one, because it is actually lot of money to me.

Does it actually work? Properly?
And if it does - anyone know of an Australian dealer, so I can legally return it if its busted?

Sincerely,
VERY Confused of Darwin.

Mine works normally and stably.  A bit of background; only had 32GB cards for it, so formatted them with Gparted (a Linux programme) and dropped my files onto the sdxc cards from an adapter in my laptop (it was already there...so whatever...and it's faster that way as I discovered later).  My flacs and 320k mp3s (transcoded with caudec, another Linux programme) that are tagged up using Amarok (another...you've got the idea I'm on Linux, right?).  Other than getting impatient and stopping the update database on initial firmware and restarting the device I've had no issues.  It has had the new firmwares, including the beta one, installed on the same full card (only ~30mb free space) and has updated without issue.  All of my music is sorted via /Artist/Year - Album/# - Track Name so I simply use the browse option to listen to the album I want to.  Other than sitting on it when in my back pocket I've never experienced a freeze.

Great, all good to know, thanks.
I have spent the time since my original post readin up about it. My main concern points were / are I want to use 64 gb micro sd card and gapless playback really is important to me as well.
Also good to know about those linux apps.

I keep hearing people say that the reason some are having problems with songs showing up when going to "category" then to "album" or "artist" is because they aren't tagged properly.

Well, here is a picture of mp3tag of one of the albums that don't show up. BTW, nothing shows up. The "album" and "artist" does show the albums and artists, but then when I click on those, I get a blank screen.

Everything looks good to me. But maybe I'm missing something. Is it possible I am missing something else???!! Not in the tags?

Also, someone help me with this. When I pull out my SD card and then update the library, all my artists and albums still show up under "category". But the card is out??! There is no music on the internal memory.

It behaves the same no matter what firmware. I tried a different card, same thing. I put an album on the internal memory. Same thing.

I don't want to give up on this thing, it sounds great. But, damn!

Ever since i deleted the library/database files, and then re updated the X3, i haven't had a freeze or crash.

I had a 64GB card...it worked just as well.  As an aside, all mine are (were) the cheapest Sandisk cards.  Gapless playback works good on firmware 2.1 for me.

Oh, and I also have a few albums in .m4a format from a long time ago when I was experimenting and lost the original .wavs.  Suppose I'll have to dig out those cds and re-rip them.

So, how best to organise folders and files on the SD card to avoid any folder limit quirks, I know this may have been answered but I'm dim and need to hear several times? I saw somewhere a structure that showed copying each track to a folder or sumfink?

- not much interested in random play

- will 95% of time listen to albums from 1st ytack

Amazing.

Anyway, just checking with everyone, when you plug in your X3 into your USB port to use it as a DAC, does anybody hear clicking sounds from the player itself?

Another thing I'd like to ask is if the X3 can accept voltage from USB 3.0 sockets.

I plugged my X3 into a USB 3.0 socket to use it as a DAC, and I got horribly choppy audio sounds.

(maybe due to high voltage, as USB 3.0 ports have much more voltage / current? I might be wrong, but it does seem like my phone charges faster when plugged into my USB 3.0 socket..)

When I went back to my USB 2.0 socket, the problem disappears. Any idea anyone? @_@

Finally, any update on the fonts being standardized so that even Korean Chars can be shown in English Language setting? (Since Japanese and Chinese Characters can be shown in English Language setting, I'm guessing Korean should be able to as well. In Korean Language setting mode, all chars can be shown, be it English, Japanese Characters and Korean Characters.)

Hi Guys,

Anyone knows anything about terrible DAC performance when plugged into USB 3.0 (as quoted above) or is it just my pc? :(
