".........First thing i noticed was that the instructions leave a lot to be desired, this device is not for the casual consumer........."

I will bet that it's user error.

How difficult is it just to load some music files into the X3 to test and verify the file disappearing "problem"?

Agree. I didn't have to flip or read through the instruction manuals at all to get it working.. And I'm a casual consumer using Cowon beforehand which is a totally different UI from the X3. And all is good.

I think it is a very good idea to try to repeat the problem, before blaming the unit.

If the problem can be repeated its a faulty unit.

If not, it most probably was a user error.

PS I think the X3 is very easy to operate even without reading the manual. My GF had no problem with it and she didn't read the manual.

Hi everyone, I didn't read the whole tread but I tried searching and didn't find the answer, the question is: can I use the x3 to record? like lectures and classes, sorry if it's a silly question!

My other concern is, can the x3 drive a beyer dt880 250 ohm? should I get an amp like fiio e12 for the beyers or is the x3 enough? thank you and sorry for my bad english!

no, the X3 can't record, there is no audio input for this.

i don't know if it'll be able to drive those headphones, however, ClieOS had this to say:

Note that the ability to drive high impedance load has more to do with the voltage swing, and X3 can push out over 3V on high gain, which is quite loud. Whether that will be enough or not depends more on the sensitivity of the headphone.

I have a Fiio E7 and am using it with my Ipod Touch 2nd gen for a while now and am looking to upgrade the Ipod.  With the Fiio X3, will the E7 improve the sound quality at all with its internal DAC?  Or am I better off going with something else?

LOL, you must be young as reading your response imply`s. The first sentence of your post does help though as it leads me to believe that there is an issue with my device, as you said nothing should vanish just by charging. Fiio is making thousands of these and i`m sure that they are not all perfect.

How can charging the unit be thought of as human error? and i have tried loading files on the internal memory.

I listen to my dt880 at 27/60 volume (low gain), and 22/60 volume (high gain), so you don't have to worry about the X3's power. I don't have other AMP/DAC to compare the X3 to, but the dt880 definititely sounds better with the X3 than plug straight to my laptop. Even though my laptop can get the dt880 to sound loud at 30% volume, sound quality is pretty bad. A side note is I set the treble at -2 because the dt880's peak is piercing in some songs

Another note is the internal memory availability, it can be 7.08GB then when i go back and check again it might say 0.00 or 5.07 or some other number but most of the time it`s 7.08. Now i understand why the device lost the memory.

And were you able to reproduce the error?

If you want some help you should elaborate a little more. I'm trying to guess what you did and what was the result, but its only guessing ...

Maybe you should try to start again.

1) fully charge the player

2) upgrade to the latest firmware (2.10)

3) format and chkdsk the internal memory from a PC

4) reset the player to factory defaults

5) set it up (language, gapless, display, etc)

6) load some music on the internal memory

7) try to reproduce the problem
