  No.

No SD/SDHC/SDXC card will work with the X3

Only Micro- SD/SDHC/SDXC cards will work

64GB Micro SDXC is currently the only confirmed thing to work with the X3 with FAT32 formating and is the current theorized set maximum limit for now.

There is no 128GB Micro SDXC card out yet. Sandisk and others are putting it other wraps and are planning to release it very soon. If someone happens to buy one for another hobby and has an X3. I would be interested in seeing if it will work.

There is no way of knowing as 128GB Micro SDXC cards arent out yet and none of us have tested it.

This adapter:

works with this card:
http://patriotmemory.com/product/indexp.jsp?source=4&catid=88,90,89&src=4,7#product_line

Formatted at FAT32 on a Mac using Disk Utility.  I had already been using it in a Samsung S4 that I dedicated to DAP duty.  No reformatting was necessary.  It scanned the whole file structure (about 110 gigs).

I had to rig up a little makeshift covering for it, but it works perfectly.  There are other SD-MicroSD adapters out there, but this is the only one I've seen that's on a ribbon cable.  Makes a big difference.

I'm sure that when 128 micro cards come out they'll work, too.

That said the X3 is going back to the store.  The UI makes the AK100 look like an F-22.  The fact that I can't browse by Artist to Album tags is unacceptable.  I re-did ALL of my tags last year so I know they're clean.  Also, to not have a way to fast shuttle from A-Z and in between is interesting in 2013.  Even the Ak100 had that advanced feature.  In my completely uninformed opinion, these annoyances are writing checks that the sound quality can't cash.

Anyway, in reading this thread I hadn't seen anyone actually try this configuration.  To be honest, seeing if it would work was one of the top two reasons I bought the thing.

I've been using to line out most of the time, haven't heard anything bad, in fact, the sound (into an ALO National) is terrific imo.

Absolutely agree. The line out is pretty sweet sounding especially compared to my iPod. Even through my cheap Panasonic system I have in my bedroom at lower volumes, you can hear a big improvement in the bass, & better definition/soundstage (roughly volume matched).

John

Thanks for the update on the adapter. I've been wondering for a while how a setup like that might work. Now that somebody has confirmed it does work I might start setting aside some cash for a 128gb card. As far as your probs with the UI, there are work arounds, and Fiio is working pretty hard improving it all the time. Hopefully all your concerns will get addressed in the near future, but of course the decision to return is yours.
Cheers.

Microsoft charge a stiff fee for the use of exFat...

Considering that so many things support exFat (including Android and Mac OS), I didn't realize that it was something you have to get a paid license from Microsoft. No wonder small companies like Fiio would not actively take it up.

Fat32 is really getting ancient, and is the root of may problems, so I hope things move on. If some novice person buys a Micro SD from a camera shop, it is already formatted in exFat and there is no quick easy way to reformat it to Fat32 on Windows 7, unless you have some computer knowledge (I don't expect my dad to be able to do it). Also, a lot of previous forum posts were about issues with formatting the card properly. People expect SD cards to "just work".

When we add the DSD play in X3 , we will improve the TF card support at the same time so don't worry about it.

Thanks James for the continued commitment with the X3. I hope your team irons out all the minor OS issues with the X3 so that X5 is a smooth sailing. I will certainly be interested in buying one.

Hi guys, is there any way to check the allocation unit size your MicroSD card is currently using? I forgot what size I am using now and the System Information window in Win7 is telling me that it is 512 Bytes/Sector, which I am not sure if legit or not.

Also, any beta tester have paired the X3 with a tube amp? I might do that if all goes well

Send me a tube amp and I can let you know how the pairing sounds compared to an o2

I'm aware of the limitations of FAT32 (<2TB volume/<4GB file size), but not of any problems that it causes.  Is this specific to the X3 or is there some general problem?  I actually use it quite frequently for specific things and never encountered any problems.  To be honest, I've had more issues with NTFS.

Last night I re-formatted a Sandisk 64 gig micro with FAT32 (Mac 10.9 Disk Utility) and it's working fine.  I'm afraid I'm missing out on some storage problem fun because both a 128 and a 64 seem to be ok for me.

I actually kind of like the X3 now and I think I'll keep it (using with Ety ER4S).  I think it easily blows away the stock AK100 I had for a few months.  It's not taking me long, but I'm learning to live with the UI limitations.

I don't have one hence my question.

Considering the fiio X3 line out is pretty dang flat, i'd say the pairing will sound like whatever tube amp you plug into it added to whatever the headphones you are using sound like.

Hmmm... Looks like I can consider using the X3 as my portable (using X3's Headphones Out) AND home setup (USB out to the table tube amp) eh? :D
