The Fiio X3 Thread. - Page 361

@JamesFiio,

Just want to say thank you very much. For a first try, this is one heck of a player. And definitely appreciate that you guys went by the book and paid your dues with the licenses. smily_headphones1.gif Will be looking forward to seeing the USB DAC being implemented. One question though, will that be self powered? Am thinking of pairing it with a tablet.

Thanks much smily_headphones1.gif

sorry, X3 can only supports asynchronous mode and user must install a driver in PC/Laptop in Windows OS . so it can't work for any tablet .

If it matters, I am able to use my Async DAC on Win8 without issue/drivers. Hopefully that applies here too.

James i have to thanks again for your effort to continue upgrade x3 features.
Portable usb dac with this spec in the markert cost the same or more than x3.

Will it work as usb to coax spdif converter also? Not important feature but just curious to know

Linux supports asynchronous audio devices (EG; hiFace, Auduo-gd) So will the x3 work under Linux?

I do hope so.

yes, it supports, just unplug the headphone and them you get coax SPDIF signal output when connect the X3 to PC and work as USB DAC

I see, thanks much for the quick reply smily_headphones1.gif So I presume that Android will not support this function then. Its a pity, since I'd thought that the X3, having a battery, could function as a self powered USB DAC for Android devices.

i think the problem is the needed drivers, not the power?

IIRC, there is an Android app, which I cannot remember the name of, may work on X3 and supply a driver via the app. You can search within the "Android device and USB audio" thread. But it is safer to assume that it would NOT work; so try that at your own risk.

In the near future, Fiio will also produce an Android DAC/amp unit E18, if that helps.

Thanks, James.. You guys are real awesome for giving away a bonus feature..
When using x3 as portable dac, do we have the option to turn off usb charge? Just want to handle the battery diligently, thanks...

The Android app is "USB Audio Recorder Pro"
http://www.head-fi.org/t/595071/android-phones-and-usb-dacs/2190
http://www.head-fi.org/g/i/931390/a/666476/android-phones-and-usb-dacs/

Various Android devices work with Fiio E17 via the app. Headfier Danba should have a list of Android devices that work with E17, you may search or PM him for details. Since X3 and E17 share highly similar hardwares (e.g., DAC), X3 may work. But again, try it at your own risk and don't expect it to work.
