I happened to notice the character decoding problems and forgive me if someone has already mentioned. All my songs/music cue sheets are playable using foobar2000 with uincode support but it is a great disappointment to find X3 does not support this. Please tell me people in Fiio are doing something about it.

Thanks

X3 only supports ANSI in my memory. our engineer told me or ANSI or UNICODE. I am sorry for that. but you can still resave the cue file in ANSI.

So, guys. I noticed that on Fiios Facebook post that the asynchronous 24/192 USB DAC support is slated for release in the next 2 firmware updates..... Anyone else getting some tingles of excitement?

Not that 24/192 will yield any real benefits for me considering all of my stuff is 16/44.1 but still....

USB DAC support would be an amazing feature!

X3 is going to be a killer product.

I start dreaming about it...

If also usable with smartphone/Android/iPad... oh boy!

Its supposed to be fully usable with USB devices as a plug and play thing, so yes. Furthermore, they are trying to add support for USB OTG (SELF POWERED) devices to the X3 itself. For example, external hard drives, plugged in dacs, etc.

Only thing I didnt see is support for updating the Category structure to something that makes more sense (artist>ALBUM>tracks, genre>ARTIST>(album)>tracks). and it looks like they cant/wont put in support for sorting by alphabetical rather than track number, which seems odd to me. At least if they keep track numbers as the sorting mechanism, they should sort by album, THEN track so that you dont get a bunch of 11111 222222 33333 etc.

Currently the sorting mechanism is the only thing that is giving me second thoughts on whether to buy the X3 or not  :(

I have yet to complete a media scan. I have a 64GB card that works fine in other players (AK100, DX50) and the media scan runs for about 5 minutes then the X3 locks up and I have to reset it. I have removed any extraneous files from all directories and have tried it with 2 and 3 levels of directories. It's almost all 24/96  FLAC, so there aren't that many files.

The browse functionality makes it pretty easy to use. All I use is browse or play all files though. Or artist based shuffle. Its annoying but plenty usable.

Make sure you are formatted to a 32k cluster size. Also, manually update the database with no SD card inserted, then manually update with the card inserted.

Honestly I"m happy with X3 the way it is. Only thing I can ask for is better cue sheet support. If improvements come I'll take them but I'm not waiting for them or anything. The X3 actually works, and works well for its purpose.

The browse functionality is for browsing by folder?

Yup.  Works good too as long as you organize your music on the SD card.  I wish you could use the MP3 tags under the category section, but browsing works decently enough.  Just a bit more work getting music on to the device as I have my entire 200gb music collection organized differently on my computer than I do on my X3, but I won't be moving stuff around that often I suppose.

I have another question, does gapless playback only work through the categories menu? If so, are there any plans to implement it for the browse functionality as well?

I'm sorry if this has been asked before but it's quite difficult to find an answer in a 350+ page thread

I did but it does not work. I will try out later.
