After moving up to 1.25 I also had the problem with not being able to browse by categories.

It was fixed by simply indexing firstly with no SD card (so that it is indexing a blank drive with no songs), then indexing again with my SD card. This seems to have the effect of flushing out the cache and correctly indexing again.

It seems like everyone needs to do this after doing a firmware update, so I have a feeling that you might face the same problem moving down to 1.23 etc.

Thanks, I've tried your instructions already but unfortunately it did not work for me.. I have also observed that now each library update takes longer like the screen will switch off before the update can be completed... Anyway, I can still accept browse by files I guess I just need to tidy up my folder names better... tongue_smile.gif

I'm not a bass-head but one of the first things I look for is "well-defined" bass. By that I mean I listen to a lot of music which features acoustic bass and I like to be able to hear and maybe even isolate the sound of the bass, especially when plucked.

The next thing I look for is directionality (i.e. being able to clearly detect the direction a particular instrument is in the mix).

Finally, my ears are a little old so a little bit of extra treble probably wouldn't hurt, but I'd prefer detail to volume (same as I tried to describe for bass, really) but this is much less important than the other criteria.

As I said, I'm a complete newbie, so I'm not sure if what I've tried to describe makes sense, but if anyone with more experience has any recommendations, I'd love to hear them. I currently have my eyes (ears) on a pair of Sony XBA-30s but maybe they would be a little too warm with the X3? (I know warmth is relative but, as a guide in my case, the X3 is already warm enough for me with my current 'phones - Sennheiser PXC 310s - a little extra warmth would be okay if I get some extra detail to go with it). According to my research the XBAs aren't that warm with a low-impedance source...but I could have misinterpreted something...but that is why I'm still considering them, plus the prices for them look pretty good ATM.

Just checked the definition of Warmth in the glossary. It turns out that some warmth is maybe what I want (but not the "excessive" bit):

But I think when I said that I like detail in the bass, I'm actually looking for the harmonics, as well. As I said: "Newbie", so feel free to correct me...

I think the VSonic GR07 might pair well with the X3's warmth.

Would it be possible for me to ask for the addition of a clock in the player ?

sorry not, it need a backup battery and a real time chip. anyway, X3 is not a DAP based on Android phone, we are trying to make something that the smartphone can't meet the requirement from audiophile.

Indeed it does. It is a lovely match.

I must urge you to try this once more, as this should be the fix.

Updating of your library, with a full card, might take about 2 minutes.

Ah okay. I was just wondering because I often check the time while changing the music at the same time.

Not a big deal :)

On the other hand, another small issue, is it possible for X3 to shuffle when playing the next song ?
For example, sometimes on shuffle I keep going on the next song and I missed one that i wanted to listen to, but when I go back, the X3 shuffles to a different song.

for people have problem to play some flac/wav lossless music purchased from HDtracks, please check the size and resolution of the embedded cover , make sure the size is not more than 1M and 1024*1024.

we found that most sound tracks from HDtracks includes a bigger cover file. to solve this problem, you can use foorbar in Windows PC and remove the cover first, and change the size and resolution and them

add to the album or sound tracks again. and sorry I am not so familar with Mac OS so maybe someone known how to handle the embedded cover in MAC .

Thanks, but sorry to report that it is still not working.. I have noticed that even updating without the card, it is becoming a lot slower. when I click on the Artist item, it will show error pop-up. When i click on the Album name, none of the track names can be displayed....

It is ok, I will wait for the next firmware then... I can still enjoy music with it. Thanks again.

After updating without card, logically, there shouldn't be any files to play, so that works.
I really want to make sure: do you update the library again after inserting the SD?

You could always try reflashing the latest firmware, it might be that somehow an error slipped in during unzipping.

Don't get me wrong, i don't doubt your intellect, but people can forget things. I speak from experience wink.gif

Try using a utility like MP3tag (windows) to remove all album art from all tracks, then see if that helps your performance. back when I used rockbox, I found horrendous performance of it (on ipod classic) but once I removed all album art my performance was super zippy. This might be a similar thing. I have only a few albums that have album art still embedded, and my X3 seems quite zippy. only about 1/4 second lag at worst between switching songs or navigating menus.

It does freeze up after playing some songs though, maybe an hours worth.

currently we have a big problem to help our user,

1, We need the music files which have problem, but the HD music is too big to  send to us via email .

2, Not sure whether it is suitable to share the music to us , cause it may have copyright problem.

3, Our QC engineers have not enough skill in English so they need someone help them to understand the situation.

Anyway, please just follow below if you have any problme in some music ( not just X3 can't play it, but sometime the cover can't display , or can't be read, or can't be added to the music library by updating.

1, Upload the music to http://www.filedropper.com/ . it is free and the size should be enough for anyone to share the music.

2, Send email to support@fiio.net follow the below format.

    2.1. firmware version:

2.2. the download address of the musics which have problem to play/display.

2.3. the detail desciption of the troublem

Thanks for everyone who help us. and take care that you already get through the user manual insided the X3 and known well what X3 can't supports first.
