Also if you are a member of AudiogoN , they offer for five dollars, an HD Tracks Chesky Binaural sampler. There may be a couple of tracks that are the same as the supplied sampler that comes pre-loaded on the X3, but the bulk of the tracks are different and again mostly the same artists from the Chesky fold, and of course there is the 15% off coupon for HD Tracks that comes with the X3.

The only thing concerning the Binaural sampler that comes pre-loaded on the X3 is that it seems to take up almost half of the available internal space of the X3, which considering they are FLAC files doesn't seem to make much sense. When I first powered up my X3 and checked the available internal space it was only just over 4GB. I understand the software and firmware will take up a little room but all of that and the Chesky files in FLAC shouldn't take up almost 4 gigs I wouldn't think. I'm not sure how much of that 4GB you would recover just by deleting the included Chesky sampler.

you can copy to your PC and them delete it from X3, we already paid for the whole album from HDtracks and it took us a lots of money ( I guess it maybe the bigger one order for HDtracks :)

Back with questions

was getting frustrated, last night

If I did not listen to the samples and like it , would have given up by now, am plug and play kind of gal

ok, the disc is blank ( no root directory to add file) -

I added  the x3-2.fw.zip on it

x3 does not recognize the file, goos news recognize the disc

using MAc if that helps

goggled it, found that right clicking on the file and compressed it added .zip-

is this appropriate?

too sad that you can't read Chinese otherwise you can see a lots of user use the X3+Mont Blanc combo. we already have more than 5,000 X3's user in China, and most of them think

X3 belong to warm sound, and they report that the Mont Blanc help improve the clarary and detail compare with the headphone out of X3. anyway, none of DAP can satisfy everyone

and that is why there are LO and Digital Out in X3 so people can use different amp or DAC to get the sound they need.

No it isn't appropriate. It was very kindly decompressed for you because you couldn't decompress it yourself so don't compress it again. Get the original x3.fw you downloaded and put that on the SD card instead - *not* the zip file.

(Panda kindly put the already decompressed file for you here: http://www.mediafire.com/?7v66fmv21d1ughy  - use that one exactly as is).

Also, make sure that it is the file downloaded from mediafire and that it is called x3.fw, not x3-2.fw. Best way to do that is to delete all x3.fw, x3-1.fw, x3-2.fw etc, and the ones with .zip on the end and re-download...otherwise you might trick the x3 into trying to load the compressed file which is a very bad idea....

[Edit] I think I understand what is going on. When you downloaded the original file was it called x3.fw or x3.fw.zip? It should have been the latter but you may have safari configured to automatically decompress zip files for you. Then you would end up with x3.fw which is already unzipped. Only unzip the file if it has .zip on the end and you should be able to do that just by double clicking unless you have a very old mac. If you already have x3.fw (*not* x3.fw.zip) then you don't need to unzip it - just skip that step. Does this make sense?

[Edit] Just checked the file sizes. Zipped/compressed the file size is 25.6 MB, Unzipped/decompressed the file size is 40.3 MB. You want the 40.3 MB one, and it has to be called x3.fw.

ok, I had that originally, lol

computer is not my strength, as you can see.

Okay, I will restart later.

did not want my frustration with the disk to interfere with my experience with X3

so, I just loaded three of my FLAC files on X3 and yes, this thing sounds great, no amp, just DAP to M100

My plan was just to use the x3 till my dx100 comes back from repair but my plan might change

for the price, I am pleased , if I may say but still early :)

Thanks Panda, I missed that part earlier

tjw321- thanks to you , too, for pointing it out

For those who love Fiio X3 and want to have parametric EQ on it, please vote in this poll:

If your headphones have sharp treble peaks, parametric EQ can nullify those peaks without affecting the rest of the treble (X3's current EQ may reduce more treble than you truly want).

If James likes to see a poll, I would gladly open one.

If anyone is interested I will post my impressions Wednesday. I won't be a typical user though since I have hard to drive headphones.

James, I calculate The Mont Blanc will deliver ~ 750mW into 50 ohms. Is this correct?

Oh, you're trying your Thunderpants with the X3? Looking forward to your impressions.

Using the X3 as an All In One, I posted impressions here.

Wednesday I get my Mont Blanc to see what difference it makes. If my calculations are correct the Mont Blanc will deliver almost as much power into 50 ohms as does my desktop amp (Schiit Asgard). Orthos are notoriously power hungry, so trying out the combo makes sense, especially since the Mont Blanc is one of the most powerful compact amps available and it is so reasonably priced.

That is a very low powered amp, so would not match well with Orthos.

I am trying out a Fiio Mont Blanc in a few days.
