Yes, please enable gapless even play from the file browser. it will be very convenient. Thanks, James. If you cannot do it on X3, please consider it when designing X5.

OK, we will see if we can support it from the file browser in the new firmware,

and please understand us that we need time to fix all the bugs and add some new features. but we will try our best to make the firmware better and better.

AGREED.  For me, this is the single biggest flaw in the X3.

Gapless play should work in the file browser, even for files WIHTOUT any ID3 tags at all.

Making gapless playback dependent on ID3 tags was a very poor design choice.

First I'd like to congratulate Fiio to finally be able to release the marvellous X3!
It sounds great (clean, powerful, noiseless, lots of headroom, ...) and I love the UI. In general anyway. Of course it can't be perfect right away, so I'd like to place a few suggestions:

Urgent:
 1. Menu structure under "Category/Artist" should first jump to a list of all albums by that artist.

Yes, already listed in the new feature in the new firmware.

 1. Menu structure under "Category/Genre/%<chosen genre>%" should show a list of albums (grouped by artist) of that genre.

Not sure what it should be , any DAPs carry this feature?

 1. Media library should respect the "Disc Number" tag, so an album with more than one disc would list the tracks correctly (i.e. Disc1-Track1, Disc1-Track2, ...Disc1-Track10, Disc2-Track1, ...). For now it seems it doesn't do that.

Yes, already listed in the new feature in the new firmware.

Important:
 1. Gapless sometimes doesn't work. Playing an album gaplessly (started under "Category", of course) may work fine for a few tracks and then suddenly a track-change occurs with a noticeable pause between tracks. Skipping back and repeating the same track change works then flawlessly. Not specific to a certain album or resolution (happens with 16/44.1 ... 24/192 at random).

Thanks, this bugs will be fixed in the future

 1. Starting playback with a new album, playlist from playing something else or from stop sometimes causes one or more noticeable clicks and pops (playback buffer set too low?)

Sorry, hard to solved this problem now. need time to figure out the real reason.

 1. Sorting the "Category/Album" list should not just work alphabetically, but for example be grouped by artist / sorted by year -> alphabet or alphabet only

Thanks, but need more feedback from other users, personally I think people have different idea about this.

Nice-to-have:
 1. Quick fade out/-in when going into seek, continue playing within a song, pause (let's say 100-200ms)

Thanks, but need more feedback from other users, personally I think people have different idea about this.

 1. Resume on power-on in pause mode, so the user would have to (re-)start playback

Thanks, but need more feedback from other users, personally I think people have different idea about this.

Wishful thinking:
 1. Intelligent/dynamic playlist(s). Based on Genre/Rating/Year/... with a memory for recently played tracks/artists (i.e. "don't play the same track twice within 24h and don't play tracks by the same artist within 10 songs" The user would only save the settings, so if the library content changes it would automatically adapt.

Sorry, it is a good idea but out of our ability right now.

I hope Fiio takes these suggestions under serious consideration, since I assume some of them wouldn't be too hard to implement  Thank you @Fiio in advance!

James,

This is a relatively minor issue but I think would be pretty easy to fix:

When you select Category/Albums, can you put the name of the artist in parentheses after the album title. E.g., instead of: "Strange Days", have  "Strange Days (The Doors"). I put in an old sd card--had some albums that I had forgotten and couldn't remember who the artist was.

Also, and this is imo--I'm not sure what others think, but I would like to have "Artists", "Albums", and "Genres" as top level categories. Reduces the button pressing. And when I first saw "Category" I thought "Genres". I realize this might require putting some of the other high-level menu options on a second screen, or maybe reducing the type size a bit.

And I can't wait for the gapless fix--thanks for being so proactive. I agree with some of the others who said that this is the number #1 issue.

James, will you be looking at changing the hz values of both bass and treble enhancements? Or introduce a form of EQ? The bass does not just affect the 100hz bass itself but also a portion of the mids making vocals less pronounced or lush in some iems.

So you guys means the gapless should work in more condition ?

james you have a beautifully constructed product with superb sound. but gapless does not work i'm afraid. on the x3 i have gapless feature switched 'on'. 32gb tf card inserted with all my music ripped as 320 mp3. playing from 'category' (although it should not matter where it is played from). for a product to advertise gapless support, an album should be heard without 'gaps'. the same tf card used in my clip+ (rockbox) albums play gapless without problem. and also the same files loaded onto a ipod play gapless and have done for years.

on the x3, i hear a small 'pop' or 'click' between tracks. yes it is a small noise but it is still a noise

for an album to be heard truly gapless. you should not be able to tell for example, when track 9 ends and track 10 starts. it should be seamless just like if playing that same album on a regular cd player.

not sure if this has been mentioned before but here is a suggestion for display benefit within the category function. so for example i have 6 roxy music albums, rather than currently displaying like this

category > artist > roxy music > one list of all 85 tracks from the 6 albums

is it possible to have via a fw fix

category > artist > roxy music > album name > tracks from that album only

and the same for ‘genre’ so that genre becomes

category > genre > alternative > album (or artist > album) > tracks from that album

BTW, please anyone have problem in the 64g TF card please email the detail to support@fiio.net. so we can simulate the same condition in our side. especially can't index all the songs, or can't support the song from S- Z.

Not sure whether we can get the whole music, too sad but 8,000 sound tracks and about 64g may be quite difficult to send to us.
