Suggestions?

Now, that's magic!biggrin.gif

That is the traditional setup basically

Traditional as in bulky, more expensive, large, more care etc etc

But also offers better sound for $200 and better usability.

That setup for $200 will hold just as many songs, have great usability, support on the web in the rare case something happens, sound better and be more audiophile

But the difference in what the X3 DAP and other DAP's like the X3 and that is in what the user wants

The X3's difference(and most audiophile DAPs differences) in traditional setups of a general DAP with line out to a good amp is that it is a lot more physically usable. As in its smaller to carry around and no need to worry about it hitting something and snapping the many parts off.

It also has less wear and tear and less issues to worry about on the go(indepdendent battery's of the units and different functions of them)

The X3 also features digital coaixal output, line out, and headphone out with good power all in one good size along with removable storage

It is VERY hard to compare the two. One being the traditional choice and one being the all in one DAP choice as they are for very diferent people.

Their prices are basically the same in this case(used Classic) but the traditional one offers better sound and usability, but with less user options for features, portability and physical usability whilst the X3 features a more consumer oriented sound, but with more physical usability, features and options, portability, but with less software usability

It's up to you on which ones you want, sacrifice, and ultimately end up in a descision

I have been using a traditional setup in the last 3 years and its been good. However the all in one audiophile DAP solution is great. The only thing(most important thing)I miss is the good UI of an iPod.

FiiO is working on streamlining the X3's UI so I will wait for that. But being able to find, select, and quickly listen to the song I want is very important to me. This is of course my own opinion

So yeah, choose what is it you want.

Edit:

Other X3 thread? I am probably not paying attention then to the current forum posts. But of course, this is of course the coolest X3 thread cool.gif

I'd say that considering fairly good reviews the X3 is getting in Asia and the effort that Fiio is putting into refining the firmware for the X3 and listening to our suggestions for features, this little player here might just be what you are looking for.  I guess the advantage to the iPod Classic is the hard drive space and the fact it can be RockBoxed.  The disadvantage is you really won't know how much it has been used/abused/etc. until you get it and try it for yourself.  It could last you years or up and die on you a few days later.  It really comes down to what you want out of it and what you are willing to settle with.  We can only offer advice, not make the decision for you...smile.gif

Good luck and...

I am a fast typer, and I use a mechanical keyboard(not proven to actually increase typing speed as much as it provides tactility and thus allows the user to be more comfortable whilst typig and thus possibly increases it)

Thanks though

Thank you guys for the detailed responses. I already have the E12 so I may just go for the traditional route until Fiio improving the X3's UI as stated.

They are working on stability for the moment.

How much they can streamline the UI is another thing.

Auto organization (Categories and play all) is very problematic right now and Manual organization isn't too fast to use or setup. And even when it is. X3 has stability problems.

However, I believe that these can be worked out soon. As we must remember that FiiO is also making the X5.

And you can always try the X3 or X5 later when you feel like changing your system again.biggrin.gif

after search on internet:

"Works flawless with ALAC files only up to 24/48 ...., but please consider, once you playback 24bit tracks via headphones/ear-plugs or with iPod attached to any receiver not capable of bypassing the internal iPod DAC chip it will downsample back to 16/44 or maybe freeze. That means you need to connect you iPod to a device which can bypass the iPod internal DAC"

Yes, but they will be resampled down to 16 bit.
