Well, either way i hope Fiio makes that data readable for apple files. That would really help out some people.

I agree with you on that point. I just thought the shouting was rude, that's all. wink_face.gif

Just because you pay more for the AK100 than the Fiio X3 does not mean that the AK100 is better - They both have the same DAC8740 so the  sound and soundstage appear to be the same. Bass levels also match like for like. The AK 100 does have Bluetooth ( not sure why as you loose to much sound quality in BT headsets.

I think that Fiio  have almost done what Apple have done created a great product and put it in the reach of most peoples pockets .

I have  to question  why has Astell & Kern now launched the AK120 with dual DAC within months of the launch of the AK100 but with twice the price tag ?

My AK100 will be on Ebay this weekend.

I did a blind Flac test wear with my eyes closed and my wife put the earphones in my ears so I could not tell which one I was listening to and the best performing DAP was the Fiio X3

I like the blind test you performed. Now I need a wife to help me tongue.gif

You see AK100 owners face when X3 with 200 bucks beats their device? I expect the same will happen again when X5 is out with 1300 $ or € AK120. Greedy iriver is greedy.

Kudos to FiiO who doesn't want to ripoff his customers and just give best quality/price ratio.

I got both coming, that is a wife and an X3 arriving shortly,.

Will keep you posted for further results.

Thanks for the tip!

it's cheaper than what hdphns.com is going to sell it for :D

Unless you know the entire production line from idea to finalisation of their product, i'm not sure if you should call iriver(or any other company) greedy...

idea, research, buying parts, building parts, etcetera all cost money.

It is no place to discuss this but IMHO they are kinda greedy and I state that while thinking about the detail you mentioned. I appreciate their products and making the audiophile toys more common in public and makes people understand spending 1k for a DAP is not insane. However I do still find their pricing not normal. There are more things behind it, it is not just features or SQ, they try to establish a name which people will remember as luxery brand unlike iriver.

It's new one from today and I would like to sell it. I've paid nearly 170 pounds and will sell by 150 + shipping price. Everything is brand new - overall great product.

If it's not a good place for that kind of ads then really sorry. If someone is interested please on priv.

Same DAC doesn't make them sound the same. It's more about how you implement them.

Still would be quite interesting if these two DAPs really sound similar :)

Oh all these new products that have the metaphorical balls to blurr the line between budget and high-end :D

E7 had the same DAC and I doubt it sounds enough like either, based on reviews about it being too dark. That's just one example, and that's just one chip - there's a whole circuit built around them and a variation in any area could account for more than just the chip on its own.

AFAIK, BT compresses audio, so that's one problem. Second, on the hardware itself, most BT headsets aren't exactly equipped with the same drivers as the better headphones in its price range, because you're also paying for - and making allowance for space and weight - for the BT receiver, amplifier, and battery.

That said, there's the MDR-1R, and it has a BT version for about $150 more I think. You could get a better portable amp that doesn't make as much concession for space and battery size/output, and maybe even a DAC, but lug around an extra device; or you can jsut use this, particularly if your portable set-up uses compressed files to carry more with you anyway.
