The only thing I really like better is the OTG option. I don't like the side buttons.

Having had both 1st and 2nd gen. units at the same time and A/B-ed them fairly extensively (if not scientifically) as part of a review a few weeks ago, I was well impressed with the X3ii. Sold my 1G prior to launch of the new model, and have a 2G winging its way to me as we speak. Found the SQ significantly better, and especially like the fact that I can use the 2G un-amped when on the go (could do it with the 1G, but found the difference between solo and stacked noticeable). Also prefer the size, UI and ergonomics of the 2G. To me the upgrade is worth it.

I'll wait and see. If it is not to my liking I can always sell it for a good price because of the discount I had.

Where is the review?

I read the review and I'm sure its a little better not sure about SQ significantly being better. To me not worth a  parallel upgrade. Of course just my opinion and only going on what I've read.

As Brooko likes to say, YMMV (Your Mileage May Vary).

Took my old X3 and Altones on vacation. After getting used to DX90 and X5, the X3's wonky button placement / orientation is driving me a bit batty! The sound signature however is a good match for my Altones, smoothing out the top end a bit while filling out the bottom end - still crisp and punchy, though.

Enjoying some classic New Order and The Cure in flac this afternoon while wife and boys nap smily_headphones1.gif

Hello ladies and gentleman, 150dB here just to say hi to all my fellow audiophiles!! I'm the lucky man to have the opportunity to review the FiiO X3K 2nd Gen after my fellow reviewer, (Hakushondaimao!! Whats up my friend??smily_headphones1.gif had this preview unit that was kindly provided to us courtesy of Joe Bloggs(thanx bro, it's been a wild ride😝).
Ok, I'm finished with my final thoughts, done my technical testing(as best as can be done provided in the allotted amount of time), and an just adding my photos to my review which I hope to post later today.
But on to the questions you all want to know the answer too.. Is the sound quality that much better?? Are the added functions worth the upgrade??
I'll just say this until my review comes out.
I love the First Gen X3, but in comparison to the to the 2nd Gen X3K? The first gen now feels unnatural, but It's always felt awkward to the point that I have to constantly look at it to simply navigate my way through it. Sound quality is great! The amplification specs are good too.

But let's be clear, after spending even after a short amount of time with the X3K 2nd Gen, I feel like I'm dealing with an entirely different creation. From the fluid controls of this unit, the vibrant screen(but not so much so as to make it irritating to the eye), and all the needed functions too keep everything sounding just right. So far it's racked up to be top notch, but is it really worth the upgrade in the end? Lol stay tuned folks...

Nice teaser @150dB. I'd say it mainly depends on whether you're enamored enough with the smoother, warmer sound of the original X3 that you can put up with the wonky controls or if you prefer the new X3's more neutral sound signature and much better controls.

Thanks @nmatheis😁. And you couldn't be more correct in that it all comes down to ones personal opinion! As my review will state, this is simply my personal opinion on this unit. After that point I just test the specs, let people know my findings, and they can take from it what they want. I just Luv my music man, and want to rid the world of crappy audio!! Lol
