The Fiio X3 Thread.

difficult to say what can be the problem,

A) can be the file format, fiio states that some levels of xompression for APE files cannot be played back or file is simply not supported f.e trying to play and oddball format like wavpack
B) card file-system, make sure is FAT32, NTFS or exFAT
C) corrupted file, this is no brainer (backup)
D) fake card, buy brand-name sd cards f.e Sandisk, samsung
E) faulty unit and/or card?

Thanks for your inputs, but you can safely rule out A, B (tried all 3 formatting options), C (file works fine on my Cowon C2), D (SanDisk Ultra Class 10 - as mentioned earlier).
Which leaves us with E. Since the card is not faulty, the only logical conclusion is that the unit is faulty for some reason. I'm hoping the card gets read, and I don't have to return the unit. Will keep trying for a couple more days, thanks again for the inputs.

Cheers

FW 3.24 supported Mp3 playback fine for me. Out of about 3500 songs, most are Mp3s so this must have been an issue for you. I am not sure why though. Maybe give the latest FW 3.3 a go. I find that to work find with everything.

Good suggestion, the only problem though is that I'm not able to update the FW either. When doing the back+power button routine, the unit displays 'wait for sd card' and after a minute says 'format not supported or file not found', and that's that.

Is there any other way to update the firmware? Thanks

FiiO has said the caps break in a bit. The more detailed the player the more you'll hear how the track was produced and mastered. Also, as mentioned earlier, theX3 scales with better headphones.

Merry Christmas all! :santa:

I have a pair of open backed Audio Technica ATH-AD700s and they only cost about half what I paid for the X3. They were £87 and yet they sound like they are worth much more than that. They seem to pair very well with the X3 though. They lack the weight to the bass and that is where the X3's hardrare bass is very useful.

It almost sounds like the card reader in the x3 might be buggered, if you're sure the cards are good and formatted correctly.
I remember reading some folks here mentioning that there was a way to do a flash off a computer, but you'd need to contact Fiio support for more info about it (I could be mistaken). Their support is pretty good and you should get a response fairly quickly.
Good Luck.

It could maybe be an issue with your micro SD card. have you tried using it for anything else or is it just in the X3 that it has the problem? I don't know much about how to format cards but I haven't found the X3 to have any issues with the 3 different cars I have tried.
Some micro SD cards haven't been great for me. I used to use a 32GB Toshiba card and that gave up within less than 3 months. I now have a Philips 64GB card and that has been fine so far.

I am not sure what issue you are having though. Hope this helps a little.

For what it's worth, I formatted my 64g card to fat32, loaded all my music to it, simply placed it into my brand New x3, updated library and everything works. Glad I havnt experienced any of these issues others are having.

Unfortunately the only way to update the FW is with a FAT32 formatted card.

At any point did you insert/eject the card while the device was on? Or before properly ejecting it from the computer OS? This may be a cause of corruption.

Regardless, I suggest you contact FiiO before the Chinese New Year as they take considerable time off.

Is the x3 supposed to come with the coax out adapter? I didn't get one

Guess I need to contact buydig/fiio. I went to connect to my audio gd via coax and low and behold. No adapter. I think I may still have one somewhere from my e17 I had

Hi has anyone experience of using as a DAP source and connecting via coaxial to an Audio-Gd NFB-15?  I intend to use the DAC & Amp in my NFB-15 with my Mrspeakers Alpha Primes whilst in bed, then use the X3 with a Cayin C5 downstairs or if I take my primes out and about

If using as a transport with coaxial out it just serves files and should not affect the sound whatsoever. All the audio qualities will come from the NFB-15.

Thanks, that's what I'm after. My nfb15 sounds brilliant and I just find using a surface pro 3 as source via usb can be a ball ache esp if only having a quick say 15/30 min session.

Would be good to sit in lounge too and listen if I get a cayin c5 (or alternative). I had a fiio e17 before my nfb15 but it didn't have the grunt required to drive my mad dogs. I now am the proud owner of alpha prime headphones and I am keen to get use out of them.

I do a similar thing with my X5. It's the centre of my listening experience either as a transport, DAC to line out, or stand alone DAP. I love the flexibility of having multiple output options.
