Are you trying to tell me I've made a mistake? Oh, I such a foo.

I have had 3 pairs of Sennheiser headphones, at various points of the price range, and I have enjoyed every one of them. I haven't tried that exact model, but I bet you'll enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mine.

Auto-update only gets activated when you access X3 via USB. It's easy to do. 3 clicks after power up.

I was thinking also that it takes a while for the media library to get updated if you put thousands of tracks on the card. If you ejected the card before that was finished then of course all your ID3 data wouldn't be there. OMG! Premature Ejection. Sounds like some sexual dysfunction. Why eject the card? Seems like you would want the card to stay after putting your songs on. Probably you should only eject X3.

I guess I wasn't clear as to what I have been doing. I have tried several different things at different times to attempt to troubleshoot the problem.  I have only ever ejected the sd card when the X3 is off.  With the SD card out, I then updated the library, inserted the sd card again and updated again.  This was an attempt to see if the previous library file was some how corrupted. When I update, I let it continue until I get the message indicating that updating is complete.

If the firmware only supports 5800 tracks total then that is the problem.  I have over 7900 songs on my sd card.

I have a pair of HD420 SLs. They must be 30 years old and still going strong. But it takes a 50W amp to drive them. No kidding, they're 600 ohm.

I was continuing a conversation with another member, soniccircle, who has reported very similar symptoms. Hasn't mentioned how many tracks are involved though.

Hey TrollDragon, what's with the X3 bundle? An amp on the bottom layer? Or are you just into this 'bundle' craze. X3 gets too loud with the $4 phones. I hope it's loud enough with the PX 100s. They spec at 114dB/1Vrms. X3 kicks 2.83Vrms and 114dB is serious loudness. The PX 100s are 32 ohm. What are you tryin' ta do CatPhones, toast your little ears?

The E12 strapped to it is for my DT880's @ 250 Ohm, I don't like putting the X3 into high gain so I just line out to the E12.

It was already attached when I took the picture so I just left it there, 90% of my headphone can be driven from the X3 in low gain perfectly.

Ah, E12 eh?

STOP TELLING ME ABOUT THESE THINGS. AARRRRG!

I've got to spend my money on albums now.

Hey, I've heard that PortaPro standard pads used on the PX 100 make it sound crisper. You think? Would they fit?

I have confirmation from Fiio via there fb page that they WILL be implementing playlist (m3u) support in the near future, both for X5 and X3. I posted this already somewhere else on head fi, another X3 thread. I too actually found it hard to find out about Playlist support, I was in a hurry as B&H were selling the X3 for $149 at one point and whether it supported this feature or not  was a deal breaker. Sadly it doesn't at this time (hence I don't have one).

This is the first I have heard about the 5800 track limit. WOW... that is awful. Just when I think I am being limited by Cowon's 8000 file limit, Fiio do this?! X3 and X5 can take 128-256gb storage, can only read 5800 tracks?! wtf?
This is even more of a deal breaker.. srsly...

Anyway, before I read about this I also read somewhere else that other users were having more success having their tracks implented to the id3 library (categories?) by having ONE folder and all the music files within (what a mess). But oddly it was working for many users with ALL the files being seen. Worth a shot. Use some 'Search' program, search for *.mp3 etc within yer main music folder, then copy the results to a new destination and then copy that across to the sd card.

The potential fix for the 5800 song limit in category view (doesn't affect folder browsing) is to put the library index on the mSD card therefore bypassing the internal memory (RAM) limit. Fiio has stated this is possible, but no ETA yet.

Hehe, utterly unnecessary for the px100, money would be better spent elsewhere.

Now I've got a good reason for keeping that bucketful of OP AMPS and my surface mount rework station. How can you do this to me?
