I was using FW2.1 and to make sure that the artwork would show up I would resize the JPEG to 300X300 (this still didn't work with albums in WAV format) but is there a new size limit that needs/should be used or was that simply a bug that had to be worked out? Do most of you resize the cover art?

I scale my album art to 240x240 (resolution width of the screen), but it seems that the 3.0 firmware isn't scaling properly and is cutting the sides off (I suspect its trying to display the gfx at 320x320). I imagine that this will get fixed in the (hopefully;)) not too distant future.

Hmm... Not sure how I will best put it, I rather have DX50's/RockBox's UI when it comes to the "Now Playing" screen (i.e. small album art to the left, details to the right). Is this possible with X3?

This would be a good solution for the X5 with it's wider screen, but full 240x240 album art with details below looked great in previous firmware releases.

Couldn't agree more. I use the E11 / X3 combination (headphone out on x3) too, and I find it so much better than in quality and depth when compared to using X3 alone. I always wondered if I was the only one experiencing it, but now I know I am not the only one feeling that way

I do agree that the E11 does make an small improvement to the quality of the sound from the X3 but I only think it does if you use the line out. The sound is much better when I use the E11 through the line out rather than out of the headphone socket on the X3. I also find that the E11 has much more depth to the bass than the EQ on the X3. You also can also make the X3 last far longer on power if you use the line out. Turn the volume to 0 and just use the E11 if you don't mind carrying it around.

So does the x3.fw file need to stay on the removable memory card even after the update is done?

I'm assuming (probably wrongly so) that it would now be written to the firmware and no longer needed...or wouldn't it mess things up when you switch to another MicroSD card that doesn't have that file already on it?

Its going to take a bit of time to get use to the new look/format, but it sounds very nice. Thus far I've only used the B&W P7's with the X3 since the FW change...I'll try my W40's later this evening and with the E12 strapped to and using the Line Out.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the help...I should have stayed up to date on these things, but I've been pulled in other directions. Too many hobbies...and kids. <grin>

You can delete the firmware file once the upgrade is complete. I prefer to keep it on the card just in case I need to "go nuclear" and re-flash the firmware.

me too ... i used to use E11 with the X3 through the line out ... but after the 2.14 beta firmware i found that it is unnecessary

Ah I see, good point there... Is that UI back in FW 3.0 (custom or not)? What I saw during that test-drive wasn't what I have in mind...

I've had zero issues having the X3 display album art at 300X300 as long as the album files are in FLAC format, with WAV albums and using FW 2.1 cover art would not show. I'll check tomorrow to see if cover art will now show with WAV files.

I used Image Resizer for Windows to resize all cover art (set to Custom - Scale to: 300X300 pixels)...and renamed the JPEG "cover", but I'm not sure that matters.

What little time I used the new FW 3.0 today I was pleased with what I heard...gotta give it up to FiiO for still improving the player!

Do most of you use the X3 set for Low or High Gain? At High Gain I get some low level hiss but then that is to be expected with easier to drive IEM's.

So your NOT embedding the cover art into the song?
Just putting a image in the same folder ?

I'm sure that I'm not the person to go by as without a doubt I'm doing it differently than most others. I use MediaMonkey to tag all my albums because that's the program I was used to using for Audiobooks several years ago. I use JRiver MC (19.0.138) for all of my music.

Anyway, I open the albums folder in MM and select all songs, right click properties, make sure that the Artist and Album are named properly (rename them if needed) and then check the boxes after those 3 items, then select Artwork tab, I select the JPEG I've added or is already there and resized and then select (check the box) for Apply To All Selected Files and then click OK.

I have no doubt that there's an easier way even within MM, but this is how I learned to make it work and have just stuck with the program I was used to for naming albums and tracks the way I like to have them and to ad the cover art. This way I can add my own cover/album art if there's none in the folder simply by downloading a JPEG via the web for that album and then resizing it and renaming it. I hope this makes sense...and yes I do know that this is not the common way of tagging your music files.

@KLJTech Did you ever pick up one of those Lowepro cases?

I ordered one from Amazon the day you mentioned it. I use it whenever I'm carrying both the X3 and the E12 together and its worked great! I just leave the top unzipped so I can adjust the volume and both fit perfectly.

Thanks so much!
