I wonder what others here feel about the 3.0 sq compared to 2.14b.   I am sure that the features and bug fixes are all great, and will please many X3 owners, however, for me, it's all about the sound.  So I plan to revert to 2.14b if I don't feel differently after further listening.  Happily, I didn't suffer from any instabilities in 2.14b.

I would be very interested to hear opinions on the sq, 3.0 v 2.14b.   Any thoughts?

I do feel the same about the latest fw and will give it a few more days with it to see how it goes ...honestly I enjoyed my X3 the most with fw2.14b.

But I also understand that Fiio team have work hard for the latest fw and as they have stated they will continue to improve the fw ...

Might revert back to 2.14b as I have had no problem with it if I feel it suit me better ...more airy better detail .

I have the same feeling as you have. Actually the sound quality of 2.19b was the same as 2.14b and 2.19b is more stable...

Haven't yet tried 2.19b, but I may yet.   I am wondering why it's different to the beta.

I'm not noticing what others are about 3.0 sounding more like 2.1 than 2.14b.

Is 2.19b available anywhere?  If it sounds like 2.14b but is more stable, I would be interested in that.

I will look out for the reply.    I am very curious about this.

Just wondering, is the SQ for the E07K same as on the X3 given that both devices use the same DAC (WM8740)? My friend lent me his E07K in return for my D03K; I wanted to use this chance to see if I like the SQ for the X3 if this is the case.

Thanks!

PS: I am using the E07K with the L7 dock to line out to my tube amp for my home setup. For outdoors, I am connecting the E07K to my Clip Zip.

The sound changing with each firmware version is mind boggling....

What FiiO needs to do is realease another 3.0 firmware with the 2.14 sound and we can install which one we like. It's only dac register settings so it should be really easy to program. rolleyes.gif

Or maybe decouple the SQ part from the FW?

Hi,

I'm new to the forums but have been lurking around for quite some time. I'm a proud user of the X3 since it was launched and a big big fan of 2.14b, since it has totally changed the sound quality of tis player for the better (much better) and for me, possibly forever. The difference for 2.1 was night and day as it is for 3.0. The bass is much much tighter and with more definition/texture with 2.14b and instrument separation and detail have no comparison. The sound is also cleaner and you notice more details. Big big difference. Now I don't know why this happens between firmware releases, but I would ask FiiO to concentrate now on sound quality, since stability is almost done. This is a downgrade for me in terms of sound quality and I'll skip with fw 2.14b for now, since I have not much issues with it.

Anyone can download the new X3 DAC driver?

I'm not noticing any difference in sound from 2.14b to 3.0. I did notice the difference between 2.1 and 2.14b though. I just did a comparison switching between the 3.0 and 2.14b and both sound great to me. If you're happy with 2.14b stick with it. I'm pleased with 3.0.

There isn't a new driver.

If you can't download it from the X3 page, try the X5 page, they use the same driver.

+1  I agree.  We need 3.0 with 2.14b SQ.    I really want to know why it was so much better in the beta versions, and what decision led to the change in 3.0.
