Manual folder creation. Artist folder doesn't do what you want? Make your own.

I always thought it's just natural to store your seperate albums in seperate folders....

To people who want Fiio X3 to automatically separate albums under Artist category:

You may consider manually sorting into a folder structure like "genre -- artist -- album". I have manually sorted my 3500GB (> 8000 albums) of music that way. You should be able to sort over 100 albums per hour.

Automatic album separation on Rockboxed Sansa is not perfect either. For Rockbox to work smoothly, It requires meticulous tagging (metadata) on each and every song. Majority of my songs/albums have been meticulously tagged, but some still ended up in wrong places.

Manual folder organization (e.g., genre - artist - album) may be easier and faster than tagging, and it is also easier for a DAP to handle (DAP may become slower or unstable when handling lots of tags). You can easily browse folder structure in Rockbox or Fiio X3 anyway. And with manual organization, you can organize albums/songs however you want (e.g., make a folder to contain playlist "meditation").

That's all well and good, but you guys are forgetting one thing.....selecting the album in folder browse mode disables the gapless playback.

I do have artist folders, filled with the artists' albums in individual subfolders....but not every track filename is numbered, because  I also have my tag metadata.

Yep, there are a few UI issues like this

But keep in mind, that this is beta. Some using the X3 are not even upgraded to Beta yet.

The final firmware in 2 approx weeks will fix stability and what not. And probably some fixes to our problems.

Yes, I have faith that they will continue their good work on it.

Does it work with a 128GB SDXC card?

No.

No SD/SDHC/SDXC card will work with the X3

Only Micro- SD/SDHC/SDXC cards will work

64GB Micro SDXC is currently the only confirmed thing to work with the X3 with FAT32 formating and is the current theorized set maximum limit for now.

There is no 128GB Micro SDXC card out yet. Sandisk and others are putting it other wraps and are planning to release it very soon. If someone happens to buy one for another hobby and has an X3. I would be interested in seeing if it will work.

There is no way of knowing as 128GB Micro SDXC cards arent out yet and none of us have tested it.

The FiiO X3 requires a microSD card, it doesn't have a "standard" SD card slot. As bowei006 has pointed out, 128GB microSD cards aren't out yet and you can search the thread if you want confirmation (it has been already answered). Since we don't know if manufacturers adhering to the SD Card Association will retain the same configuration on newer cards (i.e., we don't know if 128GB microSDXC cards will have the same set of pins you see on microSDXC 64GB and microSDHC cards), no one can answer your question.

ok, let me explain more, each company/brand have to make decision what they should do and what they should give up when develop a new products,

I think Apple can easy make the best sound quality DAP but it means less battery life, bigger size , expensive price , and yes, hotter, they known they are not going

to sell someone like us that take sound quality ahead everything. at the other hand, some brands, they trend to make the best sound quality not matter the battery life,

cost, and heat. for example, Sony‘s PHA-1 , the battery life is only 5 hours, do you think Sony lack of the ability to make an DAC/AMP which have 100 hours battery life?

Another issue about the UI and the firmware, I don't think iPhone can be so great if it can supports so many kind of music, photo, video, in fact, the iTune done almost 90% jobs to convert everything to the same format in PC/MAC, just compare IOS with Android, you got some and you lost some. there are not magic in the world.

I respect your above view James (Fiio).

However other maker (at least one of them) can achieve the best sound quality in the industry while maintaining a cold body even with two DAC chips inside.
Unfortunately they mark up very high price for the consumers because other makers do not offer this "advantage" that most of the "poor wallet" head-fiers including me who dream of owning one.:D

Anyone interested in an unboxing? My video of it is up(on Youtube) if anyone is curious. And yes, it is with English commentary

I think we're all overreacting about the "heat issues" :

The AMP part of the X3 seems to warm up a bit, not a lot. Just enought to be warm. (That is the conclusion i have gathered from this thread)

My iPhone sometimes reaches a level of warmth where it hurts to touch the screen, and i believe the X3 is far from that level.

There may be the possibility of a SD to Micro SD adapter
confused.gif
 (if there ever is one)
but yeah, who would have that adapter, an empty 128GB SDXC card to play with, and an X3 at the same time? lol

Video:

Keep in mind I didn't post it before as I am a Youtube account and do have monetization. But, with all my videos combined. I get $10 a month so yeah. It's not really me making money. Just as a warning in case any of you guys have otherwise to say. It's just a fun thing to do.

I have a bit of off focus here. But that is because I am not fully in the video as I usually am. I had an accident a few days ago disfiguring my face.

Well in his defense, the competition that are able to do that generally have less than half the battery size/life of the X3, are over 3X the cost it of, and have spent more probably on R/D and SoC's to find a low heat SoC.
