:) How can you resist a young Keanu Reaves doing that?

I suppose we should get back on topic before musicday has an aneurysm.

Yes, let's get back to the main topic - me drooling like an idiot waiting frantically for the X3 to hit the internet for me to JUMP ON IT LIKE A MADMAN!!! I really am going crazy waiting,...

Why? The Fiio E17 isn't anything special in the sound department. If this is virtually an E17 that plays music then I doubt it'll be very impressive.

Well, that's your opinion.....

Hmmm.... then why do so many people buy headphone amplifiers for their DAPs? Oh, that's right. DAPs don't usually have the headphone amp output like the E17 has

As Achmed stated, that's your opinion. Everyone has one, I value ClieOS's opinion over yours.

I plan to use the X3 as a transport, not a fan of the E17 or E12 since I have been spoilt by more expensive amps but for the price, I wouldn't complain about the sound if it matches those FIio amps.

No fixed schedule yet, but hopefully within the next few weeks. Like most of my future review, it will be posted on my blog only in an effort to scale down.

Thanks for the link to your site!  I am looking forward to your reviews and I hope it prospers!

PS - Thanks to your review and impressions, the X3 is top on my "buy" list.  I've really been impressed with what Iv'e heard about it and James' frequent inputs to the thread.  It will be the first Fiio product I will own.

The venerable ipod classic is around $229 on amazon right now.  Biggest advantage over the fiio is obviously the storage space but I imagine the fiio would sound quite a bit better (never heard the fiio obviously!)

Cheers

Are there any other daps around the $200-300 that the X3 is going up against? Might purchase one once it hits US suppliers

If we just look  at the price tag ($200) of X3, I would believe it will compete against the mid-range DAPs such as:

1) Hifiman 601/2
2) Hisoundaudio Nova N3/RoCoo P/B
3) Combo of Colorfly C3+ BH Amp

If we forget about the price tag of X3 but based on "anticipated potential" sound quality, I would say X3 would against "upper mid-range DAPs such as:

1) Hifiman 603
2) Hisoundaudio Studio V

Just my two cents.

But if the dacs implemented the same then it won't be anything special <3

A reasonable way to handle such a confounding situation:

  • Test it.
  • Decide if you like it.
  • If yes, buy it and enjoy.
  • If no, don't buy it, and get on with your life. Find another DAP that you like. Don't cry to the world about not liking it - nobody cares.

It's almost exactly like dating.
