Earsonics SM64: The Impressions Thread - Page 56

Finally got my pair, they were sitting at a relative's place since the nice sale a while back. Opened them Fri, looked them over and there is a 1/4" crack in the clear plastic of the left earpiece. Awesome. Have contacted EarSonics since they have a 1 year warranty, but after the horror stories about their customer service will have to see.

Update: EarSonics was very nice to deal with, fixed it right up. Also, looks like a 2 year warranty.

I read it last night, prepare to be invaded by potential SM64 owners asking every question under the sun. When joker gives something such high marks usually the corresponding impression thread gets a wackload of visitors.

We'll they could both sound "good" and be electro-acoustic abominations.

Although I agree that something like that is possible, there are a lot of people (at least two) that don't feel that's possible XD

Nice, I'm rocking a RX MKIII-B setup myself but I've always wondered about throwing a Continental into the mix.

People, where I can find the SM64 in internet to buy? I only know the Earsonics website (too expensive) and soundearphones (currently unavailable). Thanks!

For me, the mk3 (with clas -db) is a better matched with SM64 V1. The PRaT of MK3 plays along very well with the sparkling highs of SM64V1 and makes music come so alive. The clarity and and sound image i feel like better too. But the V2 is a bit mellower, the highs is tamed, and the mids is more forward. In this case, the Conti V3 sound signature really makes the mids of the SM64V2 is so gorgeous, without loosing the clarity and the sound image, the mids is just so lush and relaxing.

Do you mean combo like Conti V3+IPC+SM64 --- with and without CLAS db?

The clas db is a DAC section only. You will need an extra amp to run with. Without the clas db, conti V3 + IPC is very good already with the SM64. Adding the clas db into the slot will gives u just a slight refinement (using SE connection). You will get more clarity and music separation is easier to pick up (noticeable during serious listening session). But you should know, the Conti v3 is vulnerable to hiss if you use it with IEMs and the SM64 is exceptional. I tried using Westone 4R and hiss is hearable even with music OFF. The UM3xRC is more sensitive than W4 and the hiss is just too loud. The SM64 has higher ohm than those two, so it has no problem with the hiss. The full size cans are also free from hiss with the conti v3.

How do they sound unmapped out of an iPhone? I have the HP P1 but don't plan to slug it round with me when I'm out and about...

The sound direct from ipod is very good too. The sm64(v2) when I did serious listening and comparison between amped and unamped...I feel like you do not really need an amp to get the fuller sounf and good sq. . I also have the hpp1 amp. The hpp1 has a slight improvement especially in music separation. But barely noticeable really.
