It's not bad or anything, but it does seem a bit microphonic especially given the price tag of these IEMs

I purchased mine used for $300.00 mint. If you see the other iem's I have had I am really accustomed to the cable it is very much like the Westone. I have not noticed it being that microphonic and I use these at the gym. I have heard it a couple of times but obviously around the ear and I cinch them reasonably tight behind my head so the cord doesn't dangle in front of me.  What is your initial impression of sound quality? Mine was positive enough to sell my W4R's.

Microphonics with the stock-cable? That is weird. Mine has close to none.
And I really doubt that an aftermarket cable would fix this problem. To my knowledge, most of them seem to be not as flexible etc as this Westone-style one.

It threw me a bit also, especially since they're over the ear - but it's definitely a little noisy. I haven't heard microphonics like this since my Monster Turbines.

I love the braid and flexibility though. Considering picking up a quad braid from PlusSound or HPL right now.

One more for you guys:

Which tips are going to yield the best treble response? I'd love a touch more in the top end, and if there are any tips that'll do it, I'd love to know!

What is the best place to order these from in the US?  I was thinking just Amazon but is anywhere else cheaper?

Also, what's a good portable amp/DAC that pairs well with these for around $200?

The HRT Microstreamer is a great match for the SM64.

Westone star tips makes the sound slightly brighter but what what audeo phonak silicone tips do?

To my ears:

They don't muffle or hinder the sound in any way.
Add height, depth and realism to the soundstage.
Instrument positioning is a bit better.
Quick and easy seal.
Long term comfort due to their shallow fit (pillow/sleep compatible).
They seem to last forever.

A bit less isolation than other options though.

They have a wide bore once past where SM64's nozzle ends and I think this just lets the all of the sound shine through.

Last I checked the were available at earphonesolutions.com

I use Westone Star tips and Comply P100(black). I prefer the total sound with the Comply. The Star tips will provide you a brighter sound.

That's what I call dedication.

I just thought to myself today that I would most likely buy another pair of SM64 once my current unit breaks.
There is just no reasonably priced IEM out there that interests me.

Buy what....the tips or the SM64? Can't compare to Shures, I have never owned them. But I love the sound signature compared to the Westones I have owned.
