So I have westone star tips and comply p100....the ony real recommendations I see are for Audeo Phonak silicone tips...anything else?

Can anyone tell me in what way the sound altered when using different tips like westone star tips, phonak silicone tips and other tips?

The westone stars make things brighter and reduce bass quantity. The best sounding tips in my opinion are the shure yellow foams, but they degrade so quick and sound horrible once they even degrade a little bit. So I tend to just wear my Westone star full time. I'm listening to them as I type now.

What is the contribution of Shure yellow foams in Sound signature?

My question is can you improve sound with another cable?

Very controversial topic.
I don't hear that much of a difference with my aftermarket silver cable.
Most of the time the changes are just way too small for the price you pay.
But that's just my opinion.

Was the silver cable very expensive and where did you purchase from?

It's a Silver Ray cable from HPL Audio.
Nothing too fancy.
Possible that gold cables or whatever improve the sound quality more but I'm just not willing to drop loads of money for miniscuale improvements.
And besides that, most aftermarket cables are not nearly as flexible as the one that comes with the SM64 and way more microphonic.

Want to know if I really have to drive the sm64? I'm currently deciding between this and the w40, and am still looking for any other better options around this price range. I wanna just run it off my iphone 5s or ipod nano though, cause I'll be travelling most of the time.

I get no volume problems or such with the SM64 and my Galaxy S3 so I guess you are good to go.

+1 They sound great driven and there's definitely a difference, but they sound fine off of a smartphone.

+1. They sound very good with my phone (HTC One) - better than my W4R. Then they scale up really well and sound better with my clip zip, and even more so with my Microstreamer / Asgard 2 combo.

Just an overall warmer sound, with better bass and lows response. Everything just has more impact and sounds wetter and more realistic (it is a very good balance between musical and analytical). The Westone Stars sound drier and brighter; it is more analytical. The Westones are still very good though, but the sound of a brand new pair of yellow Shure foamies (and they MUST be new) is just great.

DRIVING UNAMPED

Also for the guys who are asking about how well it can be driven from an iPhone 5, I normally need to listen at near max volume (like 80% or higher). Then again, I listen to music quite loudly... but I do find my SM64s fairly quiet. I got my JDS Labs Objective2 today, so I shall do some testing! I expect to see an improvement in the sound, because I think it's due to a lack of power (and also the tips I'm using) that the lows are a little weak. It just sounds like it's lacking a little bit of power to fully realize its potential.

I will say that of the 3 latest iem's I have owned the SM64 takes the most power to maximize the sq. The UM3X was the easiest to drive, W4R were in the middle and the most difficult definitely the SM64. I used to use an S3(Samsung) and clip zip to power my UM3X and as I purchased the W4R I also purchased a Fiio X3 dap to power them. With the W4R I would use low gain and 30% volume. I have found to reach the same level of sq I now use high gain and 30%. I prefer the sound signature of the SM64 the best.... But I noticed right off they took more to drive
