Ah, thanks dude. That's some expensive paint lol, $55 difference

Also, I notice that the link says "+ velour pads"

Does this imply that a retail purchase wouldn't come with those? I remember reading someone that the HE400's got recalled upon initial release and now come with something new, not sure if it was the pads

The he-400 has some really weak white paint that I sometimes think that breathing too hard on can remove it. Since it's a not perfect looking pair the price is knocked down quite a bit. Justin's a cool guy.

Regular retail he-400 don't come with velour pads, ordering off amazon you don't get velour pads. Small online retailers like headamp, throw in the velour pads at regular retail price.

After re-reading David Mahler's review, I think I'll just go with the $375 deal since there seems to have been revisions to the HE400's, and it wouldn't be clear which version I would be getting if I purchased them used. I appreciate your help + the link, though.

In regards to amp/DAC'ing...is the E17 fine for these? I also plan on rockbox'ing my iPod...and watched a head-fi video where Jude mentioned that rockboxed iPods can't use amp/DACs, albeit a relatively old video. Is this still the case? And if so...is rockbox'ing just a cheaper alternative to amp/DACs or does it hinder optimal SQ since a physical amp/DAC might be better?

Perhaps I should take this question elsewhere lol, but you guys are pretty chill so I thought it would be worth asking

Contact headamp and ask which revision of the he-400 they got, I'd assume its the 2nd revision. Basically nobody has the 3rd revision anyway since they were recalled and pulled so you'd have to kind of try to and get the revision 3. The e17 is fine for the he-400, not too familiar with rockbox.

Best bang for your buck still stands as the HD580 for me.  They are essentially a slightly ugly hd600.  You can get them used on fleabay anywhere from 100-200.  I saw a brand new in box pair go for 200 recently.  Money saved you can get the modi and magni stack also for the price of 400.

Great budget setup that would compete with most other setups.

Thats me though.

That's really tempting. I wish I could hear them first so I can see if they really do sound that much different from the K702.

I've had my K702 for years now but I'm curious about the Anniversary...

Seems like the PR401 refurb that I bought from lendmeurears.com has been canceled. Guess it was too good to be true.

Mine was canceled as well. Seems too much demand and too little supply. I'm sure a handful of us got that email.

yeah, looks like all the refurbs are gone except the pr100... they must have had a real limited stock.
