What interface to use a headphone amp with?

Is it okay to use a headphone amp by connecting from the device's audio jack? If not, how should I proceed and which cable would you recommend? (I will be using the amp with my laptop and an iPod Touch 5 [Lightning connector]).

Thanks in advance!

Yes, it is acceptable to connect to a computer's audio jack.

(I don't know anything about Apple devices.)

It isn't absolutely necessary, but I would recommend buying an iPod Line-Out Dock (LOD) cable. This is a cable coming from the iDevice dock that has a 3.5mm plug on it's end. A line-out prevents the iPod from amplifying the signal so it won't be amplified twice.

Edit: I'm not sure if LODs exist for a lightning connector, sorry for not noticing that before. You can always check, but regardless the sound won't be bad. Just max out the volume on the iPod since it adds less distortion than the amplifier.
