What are your candidates when it comes to the most forward AND HIGHEST QUALITY vocals/ mids?
Sony MDR-1R have really forward mids. Some even think that they are too forward but I like it.
that sounds interesting! maybe I should try these some time
I found the Sennheiser IE80 to have sometimes really forward mids
Forgot to add that Sennheiser Momentum and Mad Dog by MrSpeakers are also good candidates. Have not heard them though.
are the momentum more forward than other sennheiser?
Does this mean anything more than "Which headphones have a bulge in the frequency response graph for the mids?" And if so, is there any difference between using such a headphone and applying a touch of EQ to one you already have?
yeah thats what it means.. maybe I should also include that the mids should be hq and not only forward
Sorry, but I disagree about the Momentum. The mids are not really forward. The whole sound is almost perfectly balanced, with a slight veil on the treble.
Actually I disagree on the Sony MDR-R1 too. The bass and treble are more prominent, with a more 'V-shaped' sound signature.
If you want 'forward' mids, you need something with an 'n' shaped sound (with rolled-off bass and treble).
Grados tend to have very warm mids and clear vocals, especially the RS1i.
Also the AKG Q701 and K240 spring to mind.
Sennheiser HD 598 and the He-500 both have forward, high-quality mids for their price points. The MDR-1r mids are neither high-quality nor especially foward, they have an uneven response for vocals.
+1 for Grado.
Besides having very forward mids, they will complement your Senns very nicely.
I would forget the IE80; sounds very much like a well-EQ'd IE8.
Don't know what your budget is, but the most forward and highest quality mids I've heard from any headphone has been from the audio-technical w3000anv. And given your criteria, it's not even close. The he-500 has great slightly forward, great mids as well. But for mids that are very forward while maintaining reference quality, the AT's stands at the top.
Grado RS1i
the audio techica is to expensive but the HE-500 and grado would be interesting then
