Having looked around everywhere 8a seems to get the nod from most people!

I listen to a lot of classical music. The 8.A is great and you need look no further, every time I listen I come away impressed. My MG6Pro is incredible for classical music as it has the best reproduction of the timbre of violins, pianos and other instruments as well as voices.

You can't go wrong with either. Enjoy.

Now to figuring out how to avoid hefty customs fees :(....

Have you looked at the JH16s with the JH3A?  I have similar tastes in music as you do and find the JH3A/16 to produce and really fine sound quality (with an ALO CLAS feeding the 3A via a coaxial cable).

Seems that extra mid bass is still the flavor of headfi. That sig is not great for jazz at all with what happens to a string bass etc. Going back to your 1st post, ue18 and jh16 are clearly not the best choices from those makers for Jazz or, IMO, classical audiophile type listening. They do make others that fit the profile, One of the forum top guns very much like the UE personal reference monitors and jh13 but like all of us hasn't heard everything nor has your specific tastes.

I heard the JH16 has an overwhelming bass and that the separate lines and instruments sound artificial as if they were 'pasted in'.

But then JH 13 does sound good!

^READ THIS.

I just don't see how others can suggest what is the best CIEM for OP.

Also, I can't stress this enough : What sounds best for others might not sounds best for you. It's better to just listen to some demo units and use your own ears to tell which CIEM is best for you.

And just where could anybody find demo units for all these flagship models? Especially that they are all custom made....

Read my post on the first page, I put on a link for the headphone company. They have demo units available for UK customers.

Just because it's flagship CIEM doesn't mean that demo units are unavailable tongue.gif heck you can just contact the CIEM manufacturers directly to see if they have any demo unit near where you live.
