Schiit Bifrost V.S. Peachtree DAC-iT - Page 2

From what I understand the dac-it when plugged into with a usb cannot play 88, 176, and 192kHz.  Is this an issue for you?

No, I have a very limited hi-res library... also I use coax.

Hi rez as in 24/192 or by 16/44?  I have a lot of 16/44 stuff and a couple 24/192.  Will it play everything but just lower the rate on it?

Most of my library is 16/44 I have a couple 24/96 items but I don't know how the USB port will respond to 24/192 again I use coax which I know will work just fine.

I can confirm that the Dac It will not go above 24/96 via USB. This isn't a problem for me as I use coax, however I can see that being a reason many would choose the Bifrost over the Dac It.

It looks like Peachtree has a new model coming that does 24/192 over async USB. See http://www.peachtreeaudio.com/dac-it-x-digital-to-analog-converter.html

Bamp

Just ordered a Schiit Uber Bifrost. Total with shipping came to $434. Amazon has the Peachtree for $459 with free shipping. Should I call this schiit off and order the Peachtree instead?

They both have good return policies, so order both and tell us which one you prefer? :D

I've made several big purchases recently so I dont have the cash to do that unfortunately frown.gif

Hey so who ended up winning? I'm not sure if I should dump $450 on a Schiit Bifrost Uber or the Peachtree DAC-it. I don't think the decision was ever made on who won...

If I had to purchase a dac right now in this price range, I myself would go with the new DAC-it X (http://www.peachtreeaudio.com/dac-it-x-digital-to-analog-converter.html).  Given that both the Bifrost with the "Uber" upgrade and the DAC-it X will be able to do 192 via usb I would say you can't go wrong with either.  I certainly prefer my DAC-it to the Bifrost I used to own, however.

Ive been looking at both DACs and im at an impass.

I have the Schiit asgard 1 and some HE-400. I use mostly for gaming and music.

Both DACs seem to be very higly considered as well as this Audio-gd NFB2 or somehting like that.

My problem is that living in Poland limits me quite a lot.

Even if i can get for example the BIfrost Uber to test it, by the time i have spent 1 day with it, with the travel time it will be over 15 days for sure (not to mention that there is always the risk that it wont reach its destination).

Im going to see if at a store close to my workplace they got any of those (i know they got the Original Bifrost, and the Gungnir, but i think apart from that they only have NuForce Dacs).

Just wanted to update anyone who is still interested in the DAC iT.  From what I understand, peachtree audio has stopped making the DAC iT in preperation for the the DAC iTx.  The main component that will be upgraded is the USB to S/PDIF converter which will now support 24/192.

^ yep, and the DAC iT in preparation for the upgrade has been dropping in price.   Just picked one up for $263 and the difference coming from a Fostex HP-A3 was huge!

DAC iTx should be out in a few days.

Wow where did u find the DAC iT for $263?    Great deal!    Anyway, I just ordered the DAC iTx and hope to have it in my hands soon !   I was between the BiFrost and the DAC iT, but everything I've read thus far tip the balance toward the DAC iT.
