Which hifiman model would these earpads be from, the HE-400's?

All hifiman pads are the same size! One size fits all.

Based on a youtube video, the HE-400 uses a locking system :(

Yes but the earpad and the locking ring system are two separate parts. One can be removed from the other thus enabling you to only use the earpad and not the ring [you can put the ring whenever you want]

I was finally able to install the Hifiman Velour ear pads (with plastic rings) on to my A900X.

Would it be any benefit to reinstalling the Hifiman velours back on, without the plastic rings?

Most likely no.

Well, I got the Hifiman velours and I'm a little disappointed. They do go all the way around my ears, but they touch all of my ear as well. Also, they isolate noise a LOT less than the stock pads. I'm used to the Q701's and those are HUGE and DEEP. They allow my ear to breathe and don't touch anywhere. I wonder if those pads or the HD580 pads would fit.

Beats me... I'd love to know :P

My 580's were stolen, so I can't help there. I will check the Q701 pads when I get home. Those suckers are SOFT...and like I said, HUGE and DEEP. The epitome of comfort.

Are they available separately?

Yes. YGPM.

Ok, so I've been waiting to ask this question until I got the money for this. Well now that I do, I have two questions regarding installing HE-400 PLEATHER Earpads into the A900x.

1) The most important is sound quality. Does it sound any different than the original a900x earpads?

2) How's the comfort? I'm guessing the earhole would be wider in this case? I'm used to of the Q701 giant/thin earpads, and I find them a bit more comfortable because of it being bigger.

1] nope

2] good, yes. tight fit though, so be careful.

Welp, I guess it can't be worse than putting on alpha pads... As long as it fits.. Time to order :)

Q701 pads won't work. There is no flap like the HE or stock pads.

Now to find out if the HD580 pads will work...
