Awesome job man. Thanks so much for doing this!

Just to be absolutely clear. These are what I want?

http://www.headphone.com/accessories/headphone-parts/hifiman-velour-earpads---pair.php

Shipping is cheaper than Hifiman. wink.gif

Edit: The stock pads sort of sit on my ear. Are these any bigger that they might go over the ear completely?

Yes, that is a very good question and would like to know the answer as well :D

Essentially, there are 2 types of velour HiFiMAN ever offered - a dark black velour, which is noticeably shallower and a grayish black velour which is deeper, albeit stiffer and more prone to dust and dirt particles.

The one I am using is the grayish black one.

As to which one is currently on offer, I have no idea :P

Where did you get yours? Is there a model no difference or just the grayer color? I def need the deeper muffs.

Can't decide between these or Alpha pads for my W1000X. Anyone have Alpha pads with their 900X? I'm afraid of how the sound might change since my ears wouldn't be as close to the drivers anymore.

This is a re-post of what I found through the alpha pads:

-Bass less punchy, less droning. (I was actually a bit disappointed these were flattened out)
-Sub bass is more prominent, it's also a natural feeling sub bass, not like artificial bass boost
-10khz peak lowered 3-5db
-Narrower soundstage
-Better instrument seperation
-Darker sound signature
-Mids a tad recessed, about 0.5 to 1 db less
-Better seal around my ears, thus improving isolation
-SSOOOOOOOOOOOOFFFFFFFTTT
Like seriously, I felt the softness of these earpads through the paper packaging.
-Regarding to softness, even though these generate more heat from my head, it just feels more comfortable.
-Less earpad contact, fabric mesh no longer touch my ears
-Heavier (This is a pro and con, since leather sticks better to skin, but if not, it can slide more easily)

I think it might be Canadian411 or Jodiuh who has all 3 combinations (alpha pads/velour/srh940 pads) for the a900x.

Edit: I forgot to mention, adding the alpha pads no longer makes the a900x all-rounders anymore. I found it more enjoyable to listen to Pop, Techno, Rock and Rap due to the lowered trebles and sub-bass prominence. For classical, vocal, acoustic and the such, I'd switch back to the stock pads (or just use my Q701's).

In all honesty, I don't know if using the alpha pads are safe at all, I already have a small tear from trying to fit the earpads on the earcups.

Dear Sir,

Thank you for the inquiry. Now we only have the dark black velour pads for sale. This one is easier to change.

Sorry.

I tried the gray ones.

No way these would fit... Too small.

The black ones would have to be SIGNIFICANTLY larger to fit but I can't test these presently.

I wonder if the ATH-900X and W1000X have the exact same dimensions?

I just saw the A900x at Best Buy for $180 (clearance). How do they sound compared to the HD 598? I love the HD 598 comfort, clarity and sounstage, but almost prefer more bass. I understand it's a closed vs open, but was still curious.

I really like their sound signature.
In my experience, they compare favorably to more expensive open and closed headphones smily_headphones1.gif
