Matrix X-Sabre DAC review and impression thread - Page 23

Do what? The only review posted is the one on the Parasound ZDAC which has nothing to do with this thread.

Well since no-one seems so inclined, here it is...

Quest managed to confuse the hell out of everyone. There isn't a review of the X-Sabre on IF, just the Parasound.

To clarify - that's my review of the Parasound Zdac at InnerFidelity. It has nothing to do with the X-Sabre which I will eventually review here. The other review we seem to be dancing around is by Purrin (with notes from Anax). It is posted at Changstar, not here or InnerFidelity. I can't see any reason not to link to it - Purrin is in good standing with Jude and Currawong, and it's a helpful review... So why not?

The only thing stopping me from doing so right now is I'm on my phone and too lazy. I'll do it in the morning if nobody else does by then.

Only thing I can think of is he isn't quite finished? Dunno it's his review he will post it when he's ready.

Too bad the Yulong D18 wasn't involved in the test.

I don't think anyone but Yulong himself has heard the D8 yet

The comparison goes to show that just because you have 8 Dac chips it doesn't necessarily make a better Dac

Sometimes. But that's happened before with the Audio GD Reference 7 and other units packing 8 PCM1704 chips, which I liked a lot but was ultimately not my favorite.

All listening preferences aside, the X-Sabre does exude pride of ownership if you are into that. The molded chassis just looks so sharp.

This.

I've got quit a bit of more expensive gear in my rack at the moment. Yet the X-Sabre really doesn't take a back seat to any of it.

Some people would be happy to have their DAC built into a cardboard box as long as the SQ is there. For others, appearance and "feel" is an important factor. Each person has to decide where they stand on that.

I agree..they x sabre looks fabulous..in any way its much more beautiful then the bc509 of blue circle i am probably getting..but for me whats inside that counts..i would prefer an extreme amp/dac in a shoebox if that same amp would be 1000 usd less expensive then in a regular shiny enclosure..in worst case scenario i would hide it under my computer desk...if it would be ultimate ugly..but with a headphone cable long enoght for me to be in heaven because of the sound ofcoursebiggrin.gif
