For some reasons companies such a AKG/ ATH/ JVC/ Beyer, etc don't really like to provide this on their headphones.  BUT i can overlook this "flaw" for a "portable" headphone if the sound more than makes up for such missing features. Cuz at the end of the day we are paying for great sound, and the hardware is just the extra goodie.

If the WS99 really sound that good, then I can forgive Audio Technica for not supplying detachable cables or a carrying case if the build quality is good enough so that I won't need either. It's just that while I usually take good care of my stuff, the lack of protective accessories would make this more difficult than it has to be. If I were to take these outside with me I would either have to toss them into my bag unsecured, or wear them around my neck all the time when I'm not listening, and neither option sits well with me.

Good sound is obviously important to me since I'm here, but that's meaningless if the headphones induce a headache or break within a week of use.

Yeah, if I end up using these things when out of the house or on trips, then a good case might become a necessity. Not ideal, but I suppose a good option could be found on ebay or amazon or somewhere..

The build quality is Solid just like the name of the cans. There is nothing on the cans that raises a red flag so far as build is concerned. In fact you can tell they were made for wearing out doors and such. They have a low profile yet gives out a big room type sound. So they won't stick out so much. They clamp at first but shortly gives way to comfort and the perfect amount of clamping for your head. Not the absolute word in isolation but once firmly on the head and your music pumping I would say passive isolation is a bit above average so no issues there. .I ain't gonna complain that the cord is not detachable. But then again. You can use a different extender if you want as the headphone terminate at the Y and comes with 2 cord extenders a standard one and one with a mic and volume controls which can come in handy using your cell phones.

I never thought about it but you can get even better quality extenders to use with these one with controls with i devices even. As per the case. I would just throw them over your neck. Show them off a bit. They look killer in person. Shows your are serious about your sound.

I am sure once Wayne gets his pair. He will attract all them women with them around the neck..

Well there gotta be a catch somewhere, this is one of the headphones that focuses on sound quality for the price paid. Since I'm all for paying for sound quality, it's by far the most important aspect if I can get a headphone cheaper with the sound I like than an alternative with more accessories and features then for me personally the cheaper option with less features/accessories is a nicer deal as I like to pay for the sound quality mostly.

Plus if you love them so, you can always send it off to some custom DIY modder to make them detachable, no???

@WAYNE you might also attract the wrong type of men with those all so manly WS99s, don't say sf didn't warn ya'. HA! wink_face.gif

Any one know how these compare to ES10?

I payed $230 for my M-80 when those came out. I payed about $210 for my WS99 shipped. SQ wise. No comparison. The M-80 has so many bells and whistles but man I only wish the highs and the lows was better on them cans. Sure it would have been nice to get a pouch or something to throw in the WS99 but hey I ain't gonna complain.  I think ebay has some nice headphone cases for cheap.

Me I just have them around the neck or on my head. No need to hide these beauties. I will walk past them little punks with beats on to have them wonder what the heck I am wearing..

Haha you guys getting it all wrong!
Once you put these bad boys around your neck you will be the envy of those plastic heads!
OMG if you could only see /feel in person how undeniably strong and metálic they look and how solid they feel you realize you won't need no sissy bags cases for these manly headphones.

Also I am holding off any es10 comparison until I have them finished. They are upgraded with cables, new driver and sanded finish and waiting on the best leather esw9 pads.
The comparison will be fierce.
I say these are best of best and will only say now that the ws99 are worth it "in sound" for $300 plus easy.

Maxx, your hype-force is strong! Just paid tenso, so I should get mine within a week for sure. Looking forward to it.

The main reason I would want a case is if I end up being cool and using them at the gym, in which case I would want to protect them when I throw them in my gym back. But we'll see first of all if I am man enough and hip enough to wear them there lol.

Wow, Tenso is really quick. I ordered the ws99 from Amazon.co.jp on 3/13, I just received them today.

Total cost of Tenso's shipping for me was $39.76.

Less than a week to order something from Japan? I'll gladly take it.

And it's still $35-$50 cheaper than the other options.

On box open I'm getting the feeling that these probably need some amplification to really rock. Hoping that my soundmagic A10 will be enough.

The clarity, soundstage, and separation are something I've never heard before on any of my IEMs.This is my first pair of high quality circumaurals and I'm not regretting this purchase even a little. :)

Stock for stock, how do you feel the WS99 measures up against the ES10?

Hey I thought you was hating me..Happy listening my friend. Get to burn in. Those need at least a week straight before the sound straightens out but they will sound their best after a 100 or so hours. Mine is over 200. Try them out on everything you got.
