If I buy a headphone amp, how much better will these sound? I come from the cks 99s and they sounded great. And I know that getting an amp will help with sound quality, but will it be like night and day with ws-99?
if you dont like dark sound signature you could have gone for ws55x or ad900x instead. Amps will help but not to the extent ws99 will suddenly become a bright headphone. But I realised using a silver interconnect helped quite a lot to bring more shimmer on the treble.

I feel like expecting a night/day difference from ~$150 'phones is setting yourself up for disappointment

I have gotten them to sound amazing on my computer, just not so much on the mobile side of things. I am going to play around with some eq apps tomorrow and see if that will help at all.

Glad you got them sounding right through your computer!

I think the WS99's sound great through the C&C BH amp, which opens up the soundstage a bit and makes them sound a bit brighter as well, so you might want to look into it (I really like the C&C BH for a lot of my gear actually, especially when paired with the Colorfly C3 player).

Put them up for sale on the forums, or return them.
Then go buy the es700 or an es10 if you can.
They are both the 'vanilla" to your w99 "chocolate. Problem solved.

The ws55 does not need a amp,but this ws99 does need a amp to sound as good as it's little brother.....

You could also check the M-audio Q40 that is a beast, but does need a amp too....

Thing is, after tuning the treble on my computer up a little, they are like a tumor. The more I listen to them, the more I love them. I have not had time to try a new eq app for my Ipod, so I still don't like how they sound on it. Next investment, a DAC and portable amp for these beasts!

One more thing. The ear pads are just small enough that after about 2 hours of use, my ears start to hurt. Besides bucking up and deal with it, what is a good replacement for these that does not sacrifice sound quality? I know that one is stated in the 102 pages, but I am to lazy to look through them all.

Hi Jung Woo Cho! Yup just figured out by using desktop computer its way easier to post pics. Used my spare superlux pads but I think any pads will do as long as you cut out the thin plastic base the right measurements for the pads whatever you want to put on. I have a set of beyers dt990 pads coming, I guess it would feel a lot comfier than the superlux pads. There"s a lot of pads you can order online through this website in japan but I got mine from my wife living there. http://www.e-earphone.jp/shopbrand/032/Y/

Nope, as long as the plastic base is as fit as the desired pads it would perfectly fit tight. Tape it with back to back adhesive tape inside the plastic to stick the plastic base to the phones and to keep it well isolated. Back to back adhesive tape is great to use because you can easily pull it back out the plastic base without harming or scratching the phones.
