How would you compare the bass to WS99, which is stronger, subbass vs midbass? which is punchier? etc :P

RPGWizard i don't think the WS99 (and probably the 55X) would be for you, as they roll off in the sub bass quite early (even the X1 goes lower i think). By now i think there is not a single phone in the Mid-Fi bracket that has good sub bass/mid bass AND mids/treble balance sadly :/

Whereabouts would you say it rolls off? I have a digiZoid ZO amp which skews slightly towards subbass with the bass boost so maybe it would be a good fit with that amp.

I don't know enough about FRs to tell you that, but the deep sub bass, that comes with many tech house/deep house productions wouldn't be displayed in contrast to the S500 (which was inferior in every other aspect though). I'd like to know if the ES700 goes deeper than the WS99/X1. I don't really need that big mid bass hump, but sub bass extension and power is important to me.

How would you guys compare the WS55X/WS99 to the S500s when it comes to bass? I like the sub bass of the S500s, as it's of a pretty good quality, but it is too soft for my taste. It lacks that visceral slam that I crave and I figure this series would satisfy that urge while having great mids and highs.

I am afraid both ws99 and ws55x dont have the slam that you want. but ws33x has stonger slam than the both.

But at what cost to the rest of the sound?

People have told me that they understand why the headphones are labled as "solid bass". I figrued if the b ass has that characteristic, it's definitely possible that is has what I'm looking for. The CKN70s definitely have a lot of punch, so I don't see why these wouldn't.

The WS99's seem to have great sub-bass, bass extension, control, layering and detail - I suppose you could say "bass refinement". Kind of a deep, visceral bass that doesn't impede upon or muddy up the mids at all. But I wouldn't say that the WS99's bass has a lot of "punch". Personally, I find that the S500's have more bass punch, probably because they have more mid-bass. I don't find the bass of the WS99's fatiguing, but I find the S500 bass to be a bit fatiguing after a while. So I'm not actually sure that the bass of the WS99's is exactly what you are looking for.

That's interesting. Personally, I feel like the bass punch with the S500s is non existent. It has the nice rumbly sub bass, but it is very soft and doesn't have much impact. If the WS99s have even less punch I can't even imagine. Do the WS99s have less punch than the CKN70s?

Why are the WS55s more expensive than the WS55x? O.o

Probably due to the mostly plastic construction.

Do they use the same pads? And they are upgrades when it comes to sound, right?
