Upgrade from D2000? for gaming and music listning

Ordering the Mrspeakers Maddogs at the end of the month for my portable phones. I currently use my D2000 as my gaming headphone and all round music phone for when i'm indoors. I love them to death there simpally amazing but due to them being discontined there would be problems if they break down etc.

My budget would be on a similar price to the denons maybe a tincy bit higher depending on quality. I'm after clarity, soundstage good build quality and must be comfortable, The denons have a way with music that makes it really enjoyable not boring and quite lifeless like my shures.

I like closed back but also may go for closed..I hve my eyes on the k701/Q701 how do these fare against the denons for gaming? any better suggestions?

Just an idea to what i listen to and game with.

Coldplay

Eminem

Placebo

G N R

Queen

Gaming

Call of Duty and other FPS Play on Xbox

Gaming and music? My vote goes to the AD700/900, but that's only if you wanna sacrifice a bit of bass

Your music tastes and gaming style conflict a bit. You need a bit of bass, but not so much to kill your music.. Maybe something like the DT880? Do you have an Amp?

Yeah my music taste is all over the place. I'm not too fussed about bass as I prefer clarity and soundstage I like my bass to be natural. I have had the DT770 before I loves them but have sold them to put towards my mad dogs. I will look into the other beyers but will prob want something different tbh. I have the e7 and e11 amp.

I've been using a pair of D5000 with angled leather pads (J$) and I just picked up some Mr. Speaker Mad Dogs with Alpha pads.  Not quite as much bass as the D5000, but not far off and it seems better overall with greatly improved isolation.  If you are getting the Mad Dogs with Alpha pads, this would also work for your gaming phones.  Try the Mad Dogs with your gaming rig and see what you think.  These headphones are built very well, so you should have no issues using them with your portable setup and with your gaming setup.

Cool would you say there would be no point having my D2000 if I have the mad dogs?

My musical taste is generally considered to be quite eclectic.

From your comment about bass, I would think so.  Don't rush into it though, give your Mad Dogs a test run for a week or so before making any decisions.

Ok thanks smily_headphones1.gif in that case I may mod my denons for an open back design unless the k701 are a better headphone as I really like the sound of them

I found the k701 too be very bass shy, to the extent where an amplifier didn't help much. That might hinder a few genres i.e. EDM, metal, some pop/rap.

I just replaced my denon d2000 with ath-ad2000. I also have a pair of Paradox'd Fostex T50rp. I love the paradox for its clear, accurate/precise, fast, and flat sound but sometimes i just want to get sucked into the music emotionally and not necessarily hear every single detail but trade some of that for some color and fun. The paradox is still a lot of fun if that's the mood i'm in and I will never part with it. The mad dogs are more of a fun sound than the paradox from what i've read so you may be set with just the mad dogs... As for the ath-ad2000, it is a killer gaming headset, loads of midrange emotion and enough bass to keep an ex bass head happy. I have heard lots of good things about the new X revisions to the AD lineup. Particularly about the AD900x, it seems to have some good bass now and is very balanced. If you cant scrounge up the $580 the ad2000x costs from pricejapan i'd suggest taking a look at the ad900x, they can be had for around 220, audiocubes has them for 229 i believe.

that's my two cents, good luck if you go looking for something more than the mad dogs.
