Most cherished music purchased due to Head-Fi Music Forum? - Page 2

post #16 of 23
i'm sure i've bought tons of music from posts on head-fi, but i can't seem to remember any of them at the moment. however, i do know that carlo got me to pickup alice and blood money when they came out, and i've been on the path of a tom waits fan ever since.

i'm glad a few others have enjoyed my recommendations. i have ambulance ltd's self-titled ep (i got it at a show last year, when they opened up for placebo at irving plaza) but didn't realize they had a full lp out. damn, just came out, i have to pick that one up!

I can't recall who/when it was recommended but I am very grateful that I tried the following from head-fi recommendations:

Marcus Miller - M^2 and The Ozell Tapes
Bela Fleck and the Flecktones - flight of the cosmic hippo
Silvercrush - Stand
Porcupine Tree - all albums

You can't even start to apologize enough for my poor wallet

Wab recommended a bunch of good music to me, but he does not post as much as he used to -- when he does it is usually here -- Mouse on Mars and Chris Whitley (particularly Dirt Floor and Hotel Vast Horizon) are my favorite things that he has recommended me.
Minya just came in with Stars of the Lid, which was a perfect call for the ambient music I was looking for...Scrypt gave me some good twelve-tone recommendations. Grinch tipped me over the edge to buy Low, whom I like a lot. I am sure carlo has recommended some stuff too, but I cannot think of it this second. Huy_ha had really good recommendations too, but he was only around for the first year...

Overall, I need to buy a few more things on all your recommendations...they are usually very good.

My most cherished would be;
Shostakovich - Violin Concerto, Op 99 Cello Concerto, Op 107. Recommended by stuartr.

Cradle of Filth - Lovecraft and Witch Hearts. Recommended by DarkAngel

Sentenced - Down recommended by the Darkest Desires thread.

I've picked up a lot of stuff that I wouldn't have gotten on my own, due to this place. Some things I can't remember who recommended them, and some were just an artist recommendation. I am thankful for them all.

I've always loved the sound of acoustical instruments but never heard good jazz before finding Head-Fi. I came here a couple years ago and tried some jazz that some were talking about(West Coast, Bop), liked it and have been hooked ever since. Ray Brown and Sonny Rollins are two favorites but I went from zero to a few hundred titles in my collection since then and love it all.
